Most religions that stem from Abrahamic Lineage as a religious source was violent. But the old testament had also some pretty beautiful stuff too like the Book of Ruth, Book of Psalms and the Book of Proverbs.

I am not Christian, so I basically choose to ignore the vicious and ridiculously cruel and wrathful parts of the old testament, and have read those book and several chapters inside a few times... they are inspirational at most and uplifting... Take the best and discard that which shows no logic or benefits

The old testament is actually a group of books in one , but if I had to break it down . I'd say the most violent in a personal matter is Job . The most violent as a whole is definitely Exodus followed by Judges

This is a good question. Anyway, even if we removed the Old Testament, perhaps we would be fooliing ourselves. We would be moulding the religion according to our own wishes. Besides, there is a verse in the Revelation book that says he who removes or alters anything in the Bible will be punished by the Lord. But I must say that the violence in the Old Testament makes me question my faith (or ask whether anyone can honeslty say that the whole Bible was inspired by God...)

yes it is violent. but it doesn't say to kill women and children for no reason. did you forget to add that it says to kill men too?

it must be an easy life to be selective of how you want to worship

The Quran does not allow killing of women and children for everyone saying so. and in noway does the Quran condone killing of innocents. The Quran tells us to say to the disbeliever "To you be your way and to me mine." That says is it all right there.

Context helps. For example the Canaanites, who God commanded to be destroyed? They were heavily involved with cultic prostitution and they even sacrificed their own children in the fire. They were not an innocent group.Do you think they should have been allowed to continue sacrificing their children with no consequences?

No that would be the Koran. It promotes the murder of ALL infidels (non-muslims) and there is no change in it's teachings about that. Just look at all the violent acts commited today because of what it says. It is quite bloody when you began to read about it.

Yes. The Old Testament was the Jewish Bible before Jesus came and taught us that they had it all wrong. The New Testament supersedes the old and teaches of a loving God.
