iran is not afraid for multiple reasons:
- Their president feels that our president is unintelligent and he feels he can outsmart our president.
- Even though we toppled the govt. in Iraq, we can't claim that mess as a victory. we have the world's strongest military, but the structure of it is not made for fighting an insurgency so we are having loads of trouble in these two countries, and Iran would follow a similar strategy. we might take down their govt., but we could not handle the repurcussions.
- Iran knows that the world's opinion of us is rapidly declining and if we were to invade another country we would not have many friends.
- Al Qaeda actually wants to draw us into open conflict with Iran because it will most likely help to create sympathy to their cause in the region, which they hope to use to create a united arabic army to fight against the west.
- What happened in Japan will never be done again by the U.S. unless we face annihilation. we could not justify using nukes, especially when we work so hard to prevent countries like Iran from getting them.
- we can't afford to go to war with anyone else right now. another war would mst certainly involve a draft, which would not be welcome by the people, and the two wars we are currently participating in are costly enough.

I like the "rabid-dog" comment... it fits their President !! And of course the ruling Ayatollah's think GOD is backing THEM. The PEOPLE of Iran probably want NOTHING to do with this crap... but hard to protest with a religious secret police watching.
NOTE the time-frame for Iran feeling "froggy" though... it really starts at the time of the 2004 election when American opinion of the war was falling !! Iran KNOWS we're busy with Iraq and Afghanistan... we're short of troops... and we DO go thru the diplomatic steps FIRST. Iran is also strongly backed by CHINA who is buying all their oil as well as selling them weapons along with Russia who needs the cash.
I'll put CASH down that if a Dem gets elected in 2008, Iran will close the Straits of Hormuz and announce that the DID buy warheads from China.

the proper time Iran shown the U.S. army became into as quickly as in April of 1988. Iran lost a frigate, a gunboat, and 3 velocity boats sunk, alongside with a broken frigate and a pair of destroyed oil structures the Iranians have been utilising as gun structures. just about each and all the Iranian army was once destroyed in a pair of hours. You sound approximately as sane because of the fact the president of Iran and he's entire nutter.

I agree all the way with Monty's comments above. They are frank, realistic, wisely-thought, and without political rhetorics.
Iran had been pushed around and exploited since the British Empire made a colony out of the entire Middle East. Now, they learned their lessons. They will never allow themselves to be dictated by foreign powers anymore. So they have no fear of standing up against any superpower.

its not a case of not being scared, its a carefully managed ploy to gain to gain recognition and to show the other middle east country's that they are standing up to the west (the big kid on the block) they also differ from Iraq .the country is run by religious fanatics who dint worry about casualty's and would call on the other middle east and Muslim nations for support.they would probably get a lot of moral support but not much military support.no one rushed to their aid in the Iraq Iran war.but it would certainly stir the terrorist pot.
