Skin changes depending on weather, hormonal fluctuations, amount of sleep, diet, etc.
Sounds like you should switch to a milder, slightly moisturizing cleanser. (ex. Dove soap for sensitive skin)
Also consider switching to a daily toner for exfoliation instead of using the apricot scrub for a while.
A moisturizing mask and/or 1% hydrocortisone cream may help sooth your skin.
You can make one out of 1/4-1/3 cup plain whole milk yogurt, 1 tblsp. honey & a bit of powdered oatmeal. Leave it on for about 20 mins. & rinse it off w/ tepid water.

My favorite product that I could suggest to you, would be Mary Kay's Microdermabrasion set.
Step 1: Refine is an advanced exfoliator using the same professional grade exfoliating crystals used by dermatologists, to immediately energize skin and reveal more radiant, healthy-looking skin.
Step 2: Replenish separates the set from the competition. It's a rich serum, containing vitamins, antioxidants and anti-irritants. This serum nourishes the soft, smooth skin revealed by Step 1: Refine.
Basically, this is going to be used about every 3 days and will remove softly your top layer of "leather" (as you call it) skin to reveal fresh, soft and beautiful skin.
There are all sorts of other great products Mary Kay offers which will help with this skin issue you are having. Such as great moisturizers which keep you hydrated for 10+ hours, yet don't make your skin oily.

if your getting dry patches, it could be exzema...does anyone in your family have it?? its usually hereditary.
your using products for sensitive skin, thats good. but the st. ives exfoliating scrub?? probably not the best thing to be using. this is probably drying it out, and st. ives isn't that good for your face.
i have exzema, and randomly started getting it when i was 14. it usually comes on suddenly, caused by stress or some other environmental change.
unfortunately, there is no known cure for exzema, you just have to treat it, and hope it goes away on its own. i've had it since i was 14, but it moves from place to place. i first got it on my arms, then it moved to my legs, then my face, and finally, my hands. the face is the most annoying place to get it, and its usually really painful. thank god i dont have it there anymore. my mom will get random patches sometimes too, but hers don't stay, and go away after a week or two.
i would talk to a dermatologist, they'll tell you what you should and shouldn't be using on your face. they'll also give you a cream to use to help clear some of it up. good luck!

I am 32 years old and I use olay lotion on my skin. I stated using in when I was getting dry skin and lived in Alaska. (It isn't just for old people.) I put it on at night and in the morning my face is nice and soft.

I would recommend clinique dramatically different moiturizer. It makes your skin really silky and smooth and keeps it moisturized for a long time. It's kind of oily but I think it works really well.
