Inside the light fixture housing I noticed that the black box with the five wires purtruding from it [purple brown red & 2 grey wires] has shorted; its' busted/bulging and smells a little overheated? Where can I get a replacement?

I agree with towanda. The black box may smell overheated because of a problem in the fan. Just replacing the box may not repair the initial problem. Get a qualified electrician to do the repairs. This way you can be sure everything is repaired correctly.

Fans are much to cheap to mess with. Just throw it out and turn off the electric to it before you burn your house down. Everything cannot check out if your fan turns slow on high. Either you have a wiring problem, a short, or your motor is burning up or a combination of the three. All will burn your house down. Turn off electric immediately!
