...forever hold your peace."

Have you ever been at a wedding, or heard of one, in which someone actually DID stand up and object to the wedding. If so, what was done about it?

If not, what do you think they would do in that type of situation?

thats why you use brutes as ushers, so in case a jealous ex stands up and mouths off, the ushers can "usher" the ex out the door and slap em around until the ex sees the beauty and magic of the ceremony going on inside.

This came from the middle ages when people usually never went more that 50 miles from where they were born. Someone could be married 10 towns over and no now would ever know. Or even worse the couple could be half brother and sister and they would never know. The question was a serious one. "Does anyone know of any reason why these 2 should not be joined in holy matrimony?" But part 2 is even more of a kicker: "If so let them speak now or Forever Hold Their Peace." In other words if you knew a secret and you didn't speak up then it was to go to the grave with you rather than ruin their lives later.

merely feeling it quite is no longer a reliable union isn't sufficient reason to stand up and merchandise. whilst they ask (which they do no longer do in weddings anymore) if every person "knows of any rationalization why those 2 should not be married" they're asking if there are any criminal objections, like already being married to somebody else. That handed off in Jane Eyre... the brother-in-regulation ran in merely interior the knick of time and stopped the marriage. Tragic.

The minister does say it usually. I've never heard anyone object so far. When my mom & step-dad got married, the minister left that part out, which was a good thing--my step-dad's youngest son was there & he was opposed to them getting married.

My preacher said that but it's part of the ceromony and no one didn't go up to stand. Anyhow it's not other peoples buisness actually why the couple is getting married. If the person wasn't good enough they wouldn't pay for a wedding.

yes, on Gene Simmons Family Jewels.

Gene asked the groom if he was sure he wanted to be married and only be with one* woman forever.
the bride was stunned and speechless.
the man had some nervous laughter and said yes
then gene sat down.

I think they're looking for legitimate, legal reasons why the couple cannot marry each other. Not sure that "But I love him" would carry much weight...=0)

They'd probably fall over in shock since to my knowledge that has NEVER been done!

Except in sitcoms!
