Mt 15:1-9, it states in vs one that some teachers of the law, Jewish Pharasees & he stated to them that their non scriptual traditions made their worship worthless. He was quoting the phorphet Isiaiah who had the same problem, which only prefigured something that would happen again and again ..........(Isaiah 29:13-14) 13Â And Jehovah says: “For the reason that this people have come near with their mouth, and they have glorified me merely with their lips, and they have removed their heart itself far away from me, and their fear toward me becomes men’s commandment that is being taught, 14Â therefore here I am, the One that will act wonderfully again with this people, in a wonderful manner and with something wonderful; and the wisdom of their wise men must perish, and the very understanding of their discreet men will conceal itself.”

Flattery is what he is talking about in the first verse
Revering or worshiping him is what he is talking about in the second verse.
Verse 8
Flattery is ear tickling and people do this to gain attention, approval, and favor.
Verse 9
Worshiping him is teachings and doctrines of man not of God.
It appears that he is making a direct hit on the future as in worshiping him as God. This appears to be an anti - trinitarian message.

From verse 1, "some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem."
In general, I think that Christians pay too much attention trying to figure out who is who in terms of judgements. What do you care? It's a warning for everybody.

Actually he is quoting Isaiah 29:13
"Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:"
so he is talking to Jews just like Isaiah was.

Its saying that the people of that day said they worshiped God but their heart was not in it because they were teaching and following the commands that they themselves had made up.
They went over God's head and did what they wanted.

The Pharisees--if you begin reading in verse 1 of that chapter, it's quite plain.

He was talking about the elders of the Temple where the Pharisees and Sadducees had their many traditions of men.
Temple was corrupt. What do we have today? Corrupt churches.

I believe this was the pharisees. Those jews who put the law, their laws, above the relationship with God. The acted as if they were with God but they were actually for themselves to make themselves look good.
