There is a fine line between power and too much power. To get the power, pivot on the balls of your feet for the motion. The movement then goes to your hips, to you shoulders and then to your arm and fist. Be careful to not over commit the punch, too much power.

You step with the lead foot either directly towards the target (or forwards and off angle slightly if you wish to move your head and body to the side slightly). Let your rear foot follow or slide into position as your jap makes contact with the target. This way it is like a towel or a whip uncoiling and striking, making contact at the end of the snap. Once you can do this then you can start to learn to turn your left hip slightly towards the target (if jabbing with the left) also for additional momentum and power. For the right cross you have to come back and be slightly on the balls of your feet and also turn your heels which will allow you to turn your right hip into the right cross giving you more power and momentum.

I'm assuming your stance is just a normal stance with left leg straight out and right leg back and at a 45 degree angle on your toes ready to advance or retreat whatever need be. when you jab(left hand) and your hip goes out your left foot should shuffle in to go with your bodies direction and when you come back with a right cross your body should swing the opposite direction and your left foot should be pointed outwards to ground your weight and your left foot should jus come up onto your toes then you can simply slide back into your stance.

I do not discount anything anyone has posted! Stand in front of a punchng bag and PUNCH!! Lean into it and give it hell!! Turn your hips and do all you can do. Now, spar and keep your hands up!!!! Doesn't do you any good to hit hard if you get knocked out!

I am a Muay thai Pro fighter, for my point of view.many people have their ways. but in my case your legs a 45degree or more. First you learn to protect your face is the first thing you should know.when you jab with your left hand you have to move your left leg foward and straight your shoulder all the movement toward your oppornet all this at the same time. Protect your face with your right hand below your eye. you strike with your right hand moveing your leg foward with a step and slant your body to the right. Your central of gravity(CG) of your body to the right and spring your arm and your shoulder and leg and twist your waist all at the same time toward your opponet.

take a tai chi or ki-aikido class. The training in these martial arts will teach you what you ask. I recommend both because each has a subtelty that has greatly helped to augment my abilities.
