When I have to leave him, he goes into the crate, but no matter where I put him, he destroys the floor under the crate. Carpet, linoleum, wood, doesn't matter. It's costing me alot of money in floor coverings... He is a 6 month old lab mix. Any help???

You should either find a metal bottom for your crate or put the crate on a concrete floor.

He obviously hasn't been properly crate trained. This behavior is associated with "separation anxiety". At six months old your dog is past due for obedience training. This will help you to learn about dog behavior and how to teach your dog good behavior. How long are you leaving a 6 months old puppy in the crate? I'm also curious if your dog has any behavior problems when out of the crate?

The other answers only suggested how to keep the dog from tearing up the floor but none of them suggested how to correct this behavior. Correcting behavior is almost always better than just trying to prevent the consequences of that behavior.

Does your crate have a black metal floor inside it? I know the ones we have do and it makes it so they can't get to the floor. Perhaps you could put some type of outdoor floor mats under it so it raises it up off your floor. My son had a lab and he just about destroyed every pair of shoes we had when he was a pup. He has outgrown it.

yes ...use red cedar bedding in a bag pour on floor of crate ...it will absorb spills and keep it smelling fresh but clean it out next day and pour more down its about$ 8;00 a bag...it works for our puppy who destroys everything!
