Taking the Lord's name in vain doesn't have to do with physical vanity. It means to invoke God's name to no purpose. Christians or anyone else who refer to scripture or speak respectully about the Lord ARE doing this to a purpose: evangelization. It has nothing to do with pride or vanity in the sense you mean.

We ask for things in the Lords name. God has the free will to answer in the positive or negative. Our goal is to get to know the Lord so well that in His Spirit He inhabits our prayer life and we pray for what He wants us too, not what we want.
Jesus knew the will of The Father, that is why He prayed "Thy will not mine" and God honored that prayer by giving His Son the strength to take himself to the cross, in the power of The Holy Spirit.
Jesus told His desciples "untill now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask and you shall receive, that your joy shall be made full".
We follow His example and His command.

Taking his name in vain, is using it badly. You think we are the only religion that spreads the gospel. We aren't trying to convince you - you can make your own decisions.

Yes it is and they're stupid just like people of other religions who are always trying to convince people into converting into this or that. If their religion is the right one then they'll give you good reasons other than fear for converting. So yes they are using it in vain.

Jon, the bible is God's word. It is not vanity to speak it. We are told to do that. His word is living and active, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, and for educating ourselves, and others, as to how God desires us to live.
