I have two 2 1/2 year old female pit bulls. I plan to breed them this year one at a time. Will the other female try to harm the puppies?

My dogs are sisters and have been together since birth. They get along very well.

Yes, definitely possible. You should separate the dogs close to the time of birthing. Why are you breeding dogs? You obviously don't know how to do it. Trying to make some money? You obviously do not have a breeding plan with goals to improve the breed. Nor do you belong to a recognized breed club which could give you guidance and all the answers to questions that you can ask. This not a well thought out breeding because if it were you would not do this. My city last year euthanized 26,000 dogs and cats and I try to dissuade anyone that does not know what they are doing from adding to that total. Leave the breeding to experts that have an altruistic goal.

When the pups are born, they should not be around ANY other dog except the mother. This is extremely important, because if the pups have contacts with the sister or any other dog, they may become extremely ill or die. When the pups finish all their shots (usually about 12 weeks), they can have contact with other dogs safely.
Also, don't breed your dog. There are already enough dying, homeless animals, mostly pit bulls, in shelters all across the country, and 50% of them end up being euthanized. Just remember, for every home one of your pups gets, it took away a home for another wonderful dog that was already born and in a shelter that will now be euthanized since it couldn't get a home. Also remember that pits have HUGE litters. I won't be surprised if you end up with 9 or 10 that take up the homes of other worthy dogs.

Yes one may try to steal or harm the puppies so keep them away from each other. I've never had this happen but my grandfather created the Canis Panther and still breeds them. He had a fresh litter of 10 and another female came and tried to steal them and killed them all. Just to be safe keep them separated.

They should be kept separate when they have their puppies. Most females do not like other dogs around their litter and can become aggressive towards other dogs(even dogs they have been around their whole lives) and sometimes people they do not know.

It's not likely that the other female will hurt the puppies but it's likely that the mother will hurt the other female if she is allowed to bother her while she is w/ pups.

Don't breed. Way too many dogs on the planet as it is. Adopt homeless dogs from rescues if you really want to help animals.
