Perhaps you are referring to the fact that it might have been a divine opportunity - to help somebody, maybe?
I think God is quite able to make sure you don't miss such an opportunity, as long as you seek to be available.
God had to call Samuel three times. He had quite a long discussion with Moses, to get him to listen. God is patient with us.
