A man came to Jesus and asked for a healing, and Jesus replied "you need only to believe and it will be done" the man replied "Lord (rabbi) I believe (mentally agree) help my unbelief (my un-faith)". (Bobs paraphrase)

We as Christians a guilty of mentally believing all the time it's called "head knowledge" however, believing or "heart knowledge" sometimes illudes us. I have discovered as I have surrendered more of my life, my thoiughts to God, that he had given me insight into Him I never knew I had.

I will recite a scripture, as is needed, or come accross a problem, and God is faithfull to reveal Himself in the little things. Example: I can't ever find my clip on sunglasses, I'm always misplacing them, after I do a room to room and realize the enemy is clouding my memory I say "Lord please help me" and BAM!!!! next thing I know he leads me right to them. Once he tool me to where I put them and I would never has thought I would have placed them in this place, I even wondered "why am I even gonna look there God"? When I found them I understood why.

God is in the big stuff, but he is also in the little mundain stuff of our everyday lives. That's the part that increases my belief in Him, because He shows His power, and love to me. It's not just an abstract thought in a book, it is His living Word, manefested thru me and the others around me.

Hope this helps

Mental ill is a chemical embalanced in some part of the brain or another due to disorder or injury. Usually people with this do not have what is needed to make the desions in full on there own or part way. Eccentric is someone who is very strong willed who have the ablity to deside what they want and beleive no matter how differant it is from any one else. It is the way they live their life no matter what other people think and alot of the times it is a amusment to them on the reaction they can get from other people. You live a certain way for 50 years it is normal for you and you are comfortable with it and don't want to change even if other people don't agree on living like that. I think being eccentic would be actually fun to be when I am older LOL. They are able to control everything in their world, but they do not have a mental disorder, they just like being weird. Like the crazy cat lady, she isn't crazy she just chose cats over people for what ever reason and was alone with them for so long she no loner looked at them as animals any more but someone just like her.

Believing comes from the heart.
Romans 10:10 says, "...for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness..." The heart of a person is the very essence of their nature and character. Mentally agreeing comes from the intellect. A persons intellect can change instantly as soon as new information is attained, but a person's character changes very little over their lifetime.

There's no difference between deceived and bewitched.
Neither do children and servants differ in the Holy Bible.
So the higher exhortations about such things are:
- be no more children (get easily tossed to and fro)
- thou art no more a servant(in bondage), but a son

Devils believe: James 2:19
So believe not: Mt 24:23,26; 1Jn4
The objective is to know: John 8:32
Know makes you free of believe lies(laws).

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Mental assent is the acceptance of a fact as reasonable, and acting as if one knows it to be true. There may be reasonable doubt, but one does not act on that doubt. Believing has no doubt.

One could say that intellectual assent (or mental agreement) is acting confidently, while belief breeds confidence.

This sounds like a person who does not have the courage of his or her convictions. Or perhaps they are confusing "belief" with "faith." In any case, it doesn't make a great deal of sense to me. If you agree mentally, what's keeping you from believing? Perhaps what is really meant is "I don't want to believe it."

OK if i tell the difference in my view:
"Believing" is like you say: Yes that's true.
"Mentally agreeing" is like you don't believe but someone explains you and you come to conclusion that: "Ya! that may be true".,

Believing means you will act on it in faith outwardly. Mental agreement is more of a nod of acknowledgment inwardly.

Mental agreement is in and from the head--a noun--affect
Believing is from the heart---a verb--effect
