its old enough.. so check the fuel filter and the fuel system Something is likely blocking the fuel intermittently. It could also be a dirty jet if you have a carb. or clogged injectors if you have fuel injections.

It sounds like a good old vaccum leak. Check out all those little hoses under the hood. If one is cracked or broken, repair it.
