Yes, about 60% supported it. After the war was over.

But 34% didn't support it. After the war was over.

Support numbers for the Gulf war and the Iraq war at the start of each war, were pretty close.

Gulf war - 76%
Iraq war - 72%

Whats funny, is public support for the Gulf War, is now in 2007, only 51%.

Yes, most people supported Operation Desert Storm. There was a clear objective and an exit strategy.

I was deployed in Japan from April 1990 to Sept 1990, then boarded the boat and deployed for Desert Shield / Storm until May 1991.

We certainly got a strong impression what we were supported back home... plus, it was a QUICK war !!

Oh, and for the silly little girl who needs to read her history... Bush 41 was NOT reelected because of the war, it was because of the "No New Taxes" quote.

I think the majority did. I can't say for sure, because I was an infantryman in the 1st Infantry Division and we didn't get much in the way of news from home except in letters from our families. I know there were protests, but I don't think they were very extensive, for the most part.

Yes, because we didn't occupy the country and we weren't the aggressor. American forces just kick the Iraqis out of Kuwait

I remember it being pretty unpopular at the time - though I live in CA, so you have to consider the nature of my neighbors - and George Bush 1 was /not/ re-elected.
