You may be feeling your posterior auricular nodes, usually two in number. They are situated behind the ear lobe at the point where the sternocleidomastoid muscle attaches to the mastoid process of the skull.

More likely to enlarge with sore throats are the nodes in the anterior cervical triangle, slightly below the ear lobe and below the boarder of the mandible or jawbone. It is normal for them to enlarge with infection, then regress in size upon convalescence. Persistent enlargement and persistent tenderness would be reason to seek medical attention.

Although your lympth nodes are generally located in several clumps around the body, you have literally thousands of them throughout the body, all over. Don't worry about it.
