It's not the age of your computer, nor the manufacture; it is the specs. The amount of RAM, the speed of you CPU, availible hard drive space, etc.

Its a bit old for Vista. I would stay with XP for now. By the time you need to buy your next machine Vista will be more stable anyway.

You may need a major upgrade before Vista will even install, then may be another one just to make it run at a reasonable speed, please take my advice and stick to XP.
