What? What makes you think they were Christians?

If Atheists do not believe in Jesus and think they can derive morals without God and on their own then why were they hanging black people from trees up until the 1960's? What's their excuse? Survival of the fittest? You don't actually think atheism is a new concept do you and that back in those days they didn't exist? Can you prove that only Christians committed these atrocities? Once you do let me know so I can stand corrected.

Christians are known by their actions and not by whether they say they are or not. A person can say they are a cabbage all day and I won't try to cook them. Same logic applies here.

William Wilberforce, John Newton and other Christians were responsible for the peaceful release of the slaves in the English Empire on July 26, 1833, but the USA did not free them until 1865. These men can be seen to be Chrisitians but KKK etc. may as well call themselves cabbage for all the good it will do them when they stand before God in judgement. Jesus said that even as you do onto the least of these (the children) you do onto me and to know people by their fruit (actions).

Go see the movie "Amazing Grace" for more on a real Christian.

Because they weren't being true Christians. Just like someone may claim they are something but act the other way - hypocrites. I am a Christian Catholic and I know it's hard to say but Christians are known for saying one thing and doing another.

Because they were hypocrites and evil people, and because they weren't really Christians.

If you are a Christian, you are supposed to be following Christ, right? Well, Christ preached non-violence and opened the gospel to all - quite the opposite tactic, it seems, of those false Christians.

By the way, by your logic, what does it mean that the blacks that were being lynched and killed were Christians themselves?

I think the required religious response is that love expresses itself in mysterious ways. Some people even claim that Islam is one such way. I think the idea is that if we kill everyone who is not like us, then whoever is left can express love of everyone. Who is working to create the most love. I know that muslims are trying hard, but christians like to love also, as you noted.

If these people were really born again believers, they would have known that in Christ there is not racial differences- we are all the same in the eyes of our wonderful Lord. Just because they were white people who went to church, that does not make them automatically a Christian- anymore than if you were standing in your garage, you would be a car. God knows the hearts of everyone-and many who say "Lord, Lord" will be told "away from me I did not know you".

As a teacher I can tell you that teaching something doesn't always mean it gets learned.

KKK are not Christians. They are the antithesis of everything Jesus Christ taught.
