I've never been in a hotel before and I've tried booking online and by the phone but I only own a solo card which they do not except and I do not know anyone who has a credit card. Can I check into hotel by paying by cash asoon as I arive, with no prior contact that I would be ariving?

It's a little embressing walking into a hotel, asking for a room to find out I can't get one cause I don't own a credit card(I'm really paranoid about these things happening to me). I wanted to book into the travel lodge

It is possible, but a little risky. You don't know if they have availability or what the price might be. I mostly would do it if I know the area generally has a lot of availability, it is the off season and I am arriving early.

There isn't much difference between hotel policy for paying with no credit card or booking with no credit card. So I would tend to phone and ask what their policy is. Many reservation policy, is you can reserve it without a credit card, but they will only hold the room until a certain time - like 4PM. Many paying by cash policy is to require a upfront deposit (sometime large amount). So if you call you can check availability and know what procedure is for paying in cash.

i help manage a hotel, and as long as you have money for a room and valid id and are of age, you can get a room. a lot of people don't have credit cards and pay cash. some fancier hotels may require a credit card, so you may want to call ahead to verify.

You shouldn't have a problem.. surely people turn up at hotels without prior booking all the time.. Nothing to be embarrased about..

I can't see that being problem as long as the hotel in question has availability on the day you require to stay.

I have done it once (stayed in a hotel without booking) when I missed my plane and had to stay overnight.

If there are rooms available they will welcome you with open arms.
If they are full they will not.
But that would apply with or woithout a credit card.

of course you can use cash, its upfront and probably the staff wont put it through and pocket it for themselves
