I am in my early twenties and from Canada. I have very good knowledge in timber-frame house construction and am good in business concepts, residential development economics and feasibility, etc. I don't have any dependents, which would make any move quite easy. I prefer to live somewhere where there is lots of sun, moderate rainfall, but little cloud cover on average. I would need to live in an area where jobs in construction are plentiful and the cost of living reasonable. It doesn't have to be a major city, but a minimum of 75 000 people is a must. From my research on the internet I'm thinking the southern coast of Queensland or south-east South Australia (Adelaide region), but I would like some peoples personal opinion. Can anyone help?

With your weather requirements, Adelaide or Perth are the places to go with Melbourne and Hobart coming close.
Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Hobart have most of their rain in winter while Sydney and Brisbane have it in the summer/ autumn.

As far as cost is concerned, Adelaide and Hobart are the cheapest of the capital cities. Perth is rapidly becoming the most expensive.

Most of Australia's large cities are expanding so there is plenty of construction work going on. Perth is probably the most dynamic right now but prices are getting out of control over there. You should be able to find work anywhere. To get some idea, look at the classified advertisements in the main newspapers on Saturdays. These are The Courier Mail (Brisbane), The Sydney Morning Herald, the Canberra Times, The Age (Melbourne), The Hobart Mercury, the Adelaide Advertiser and the West Australian. They will also give you an idea of house prices. The papers are all on line.

In terms of knowledge of timber-frame construction I would say Adelaide
Weather - Perth or Gold Coast
I would also consider Melbourne or even Wollongong

Probably Australia or Canada. But you can't just move to a place. You need a good reason to, and a visa. And there's little chance you'll get both

Gold coast for sure!

It is a boombing surf city with a lot to do, with only a 40 min drive to Brisbane CBD

I am not sure but suggest you look at www.walkabout.com.au It has an alphabetical listing of every Australian town of any significance, is written on behalf of a major Australian Newspaper for Australians.
