People in my school see gum being equivilant to the air we breathe. We chew a pack a day practically. We obsess over it. It's not gum like bubbulicious ts sugar free gum like orbit and stride. I always hear "does anyone have and gum?" "Sorry I only hav a piece left" i see people fight over it sometimes. Guys will go through girls purses for it (only if we know eachother). My friend COLLECTS GUM so she doesnt have to buy it. I've prbably spent a hundred dollars on gum this school year. Lets just say the eclipse big-e-packs lasts just as long as another 14-piece pack: one day. Gum in our school has such a value that the ampount of gum availble is how much you chew. Is all this unhealthy?

It's certainly better than drugs, alcohol or cigartettes. For some reason people are crazy about gum.

Chewing too much gum can cause excessive gas because you are bring air into your stomach as you chew, (which can prove to be amusing or amazingly disgusting depends on your type of crowd) Oh yes, a horrible penalty to pay for excessive gum chewing is the lovely TMJ! It's painful and it comes and it goes. Your jaws swell and sometimes lock a little and you have to take anti inflammatories, you have to use heat and ice and you have to avoid caffeine, sugar, and chewy foods such as steak or caramel and then you have to wear a rubber plate on your bottom teeth which can prove to be uncomfortable and you have to sleep with it too

Other than that, gum chewing is okay. Just don't kill each other over it or get it in the carpet or other people's hair ,AND NEVER Stick it on someone's car on a hot day.

From the question itself, I can tell that you realize it's unhealthy!

As a matter of fact, when I was in highschool there was this apple flavor gum, I just loved it but the flavor always ran out very fast. I basically became addicted to it and chewed like 2-3 packs every day. After a year or so of having this habit, I woke up one day with an awful stomach ache, took almost a week until all the tests were done so I could get the appropriate treatment. At only 17 years old I was diagnosed with stomach ulcer.

Since then, the days of coke & gum are over. Of course I still eat gum sometimes, and coke when I feel like it, but not in excess. You should consider the full impact these things can have on you, even if the effects won't appear after a few days.

Hope this helps, all the best!

many human beings have a affliction pronounced as TMJ . it quite is while your mouth or jaw is out alignment. maximum folk have a touch TMJ yet don't be conscious it nor do they want care So once you chew gum it irritates the jaw and that's the reason your get a headache.
