I know this question has been asked before but I have a 6week old Jack Russell female and she is very cute, a real pure Jack Russell and I am stuck at the moment thinking of where she could sleep. Last night she slept on top of the bed with me but luckily I didn't crush her or anything and roll on her. I got a Pedigree guide book with her from the owners and it says in that to leave beside my bed in a cardboard box on its side with a blanket. I tried that and tested her in the box but she always escaped, I also tried the box just standing up and she also escaped. What I wouldn't like happening would be escaping from the box at night and then whining all night wanting to go on the bed or somewhere but can't get back in to the box. The box is actually quite small and she could jump out very easily but it's the only one I have. I need answers quickly because I'm going to bed in about an hour. Any ideas.. thanks.

My Golden is crate trained and she loves it. Of course, I'm trying to sell my house and have temporarily stored it away. Now she and my older dog both sleep on my bed.

Some people think crate training is cruel, and I used to be one of them until I saw how safe and secure it made her feel. The old guy even likes to wander in there for a nap now and then.

Good luck.

Don't let her sleep with you! Unless you want to have to change the sheets all the time. Dogs that young cannot hold it in for more than 2 or 3 hours. I would recommend buying a kennel. It will help greatly in the house training and you getting some sleep. My lab is 8 months old now, and started sleeping in the bed with me at around 3 months of age. If I didn't spring for that kennel, it could have taken twice that amount of time before he was house broken.

She will whine at first, but after one or two nights she will adjust, and even begin thinking of the kennel as her "safe place". She won't escape and do something you don't want her to do. You'll still need to wake up in the middle of the night to let her out a time or two (she'll let you know when! haha). But thats normal for a month or two. Good Luck!

Definitely get her a crate and crate train her. She will fell safe and snug, especially if she's in the room with you and she won't be able to escape. It's the best way to housetrain too.

Sleeping on the bed is a privilege best left to dogs that have been fully obedience trained. They should understand when you want them to move and the command "off." Letting them on the bed too soon can cause confusion about the pack order. They also find that pets on the bed is a common form of sleep disturption for humans.

The crate would probably be the best option...she is very young still and will most likely whine most of the night for the first couple of nights. I have been letting my jack russell sleep with me since I got her at 8 weeks...I have never had any problems with her sleeping in my bed.

Get a cardboard box, line it with an old towel, put a toy in there and something like a shirt that smells of you, cut a hole in the side so she can step in and out, and stick it by your bed.

I think you should get her a crate she cant get out off. This is also a very easy way to potty train them, because as soon as you take them out of the crate you can take her outside and they learn real easily this way. I do this with my dogs and i have never had any trouble. And once they get older you just loose the crate and they can sleep wherever they desire.

Buy one of those fences that form into a round pen. (sorry, I don't know how else to describe it). Put it next to your bed and put the pillow/bed you want her to sleep on inside. She might whine and cry but she can't escape, eventually she will fall asleep and learn to sleep there once you take the pen away.

I would continue to let her sleep with me personally. If you put her blanket up by your head, you don't have to worry about crushing her. Also, if she is too small to jump off the bed, she will wake you up when she has to pee. Don't forget, a pup that young can't physically hold it all night so you will have to get up to put her outside!

Buy her a proper crate with a door and clicker train her to go inside with a treat every night. My little dog loves his crate and runs right in when I say, "Go in your room!" He sleeps there every night and I don't have to worry about him. He's been sleeping in it all his life.

Get her a small dog kennel and put some waterin it so she doesn't get thirsty and get a small dog bed for her too so that she's comfortable or let her sleep with you.
