Although Amazing Grace is a pretty song I am not sure you would want it if you knew the story behind it.

The man who wrote "Amazing Grace" was an officer on a slave ship. He was so hated by the crew they threw him over board in the middle of the ocean. The captain harpooned him as it was the only way the captain could get him back aboard. As he lay in his bunk many months healing from the harpoon wound he began reading the Bible. He became a Christian. The whole song is about his life as a lost slaver who found Jesus on what was nearly his death bed.

In case you didn't know it Amazing Grace can be played entirely on the black keys, as can most of the old black spiritual songs could such as Swing Low Sweet Cheriot. The blacks of that era all sang in sharps and flats. Because this is the music the writer heard all the time it is believed this is why he wrote Amazing Grace as he did.

If you ever have a chance to read the full story of his life it most certinaly is an Amazing Grace of a story, and very true.

I wouldn't..just read the words.."I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see." Not really a song filled with lots of joy.

I like Jesu Joy of Man's Desire for a bridal entry. But a fantastic wedding I attended in Brazil used the them song from Beauty and the Beast and it was lovely....although I am not sure which of them was Beauty and which was Beast.
The Trumpet Aire is an excellet recessional song.

I think this is a very dour song for a wedding. I wouldn't use it. It's sung a funerals. Do you want people to think of a funeral when they hear it at your wedding?

Amazing Grace

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That sav’d a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears reliev’d;
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believ’d!

Thro’ many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promis’d good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who call’d me here below,
Will be forever mine.

I would play Amazing Grace as your guests are being seated in the church along with 2 or 3 other songs in the same theme.

Learning the story to "Amazing Grace" made me like the hymn more.

The line that was referenced, "I once was los, but now I'm found; Was blind but now I see," is a great line, I think and nothing sad about it. Going from lost to found means that he (or we, I, etc.) was lost without Jesus, and is now found; Blind, meaning that he (we,I, etc.) we did not see the truth, did not see things clearly, but now, with Jesus, sees.

Yeah, it's mostly played at funerals and is a bit clcheed because of it. Eh.

Unless most of your guests are Christains and would possibly understand the use of the song as your wedding march, I might stay away from it. We used Pachabel's Canon in D for my wedding march and "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee" for our ending hymn (the music is "Ode to Joy", by Beethoven).

i think of employing an upbeat humorous music like Ice Ice toddler is a huge theory! i'm effective that your individuals/relatives in the bridal occasion already understand your character and it is your day so I say choose for it! sounds like relaxing!! want I had theory-approximately it!

It's more on the sombre side, and is more often used at funerals. There are a lot of other beautiful songs - we used a traditional hymn to Mary.
