Dress nicely - no pull-down pants and over sized tee shirts and such. Wear something slightly square - like a polo shirt and well-fitting khakis and decent shoes - and maybe a suit-jacket. Take your hat off in the house. Old school but it works.

Be clean cut - no scraggly beards or bad haircut - and watch the dreads if you have them - keep them under control.

Speak politely. "I'm really glad to meet you."

Shake their hands - no Hi-5s or other strange hand-shake type greeting.

Speak respectfully. No foul language or "slang" that they might not understand.

Yes ma'am and yes sir are always appreciated.

Look them in the eye and smile a nice genuine smile.

Show interest in them - ask them what their likes/dislikes are.

Show them you are a man with a plan - that you are a cut above the rest. That you make good grades, have a steady job with advancement, go to church etc. They want the best for their daughter.

Speak clearly and pronounce your words - a mushy mouth is suspicious.

Tell Mama the dinner was delicious and you really appreciate her hospitality.

Tell Dad that you really think his daughter is something special and that she's a treasure.

This is just a start. I"m sure you'll get more answers.

The most important thing to remember when going to meet the parents is to be yourself and be polite and respectful. Being very formal with yes ma'am, no ma'am and yes sir, no sir is a great way to grab their attention. No parent wants their daughter to be with someone who doesn't have manners and arent respectable because that sends the impression that you don't respect them or their daughter. Also, find some common ground to strike up a conversation. Find out their interests to see if it is something you can relate to, that way you sound intelligent and you will have something in common. Good luck to you.

Just be yourself man. Fortunately i met my gf's parents on a spur of the moment type thing so i didn't have time to get nervous about it. Just be quiet for the first part and try and guage what their views are (if their conservative don't say anything to liberal that will piss them off and vice versa) don't try to hard to impress them though as you'll just end up making an *** of yourself...good luck though

Dress nicely, but don't dress up too much. Ask lots of questions, and listen to their answers. Based on their answers ask further questions. Be polite, and just relax. Exude confidence. The less you talk, the more they will like you.
