Ok, at first I thought my son was just having issues with constipation from a milk allergy... But I am starting to think that may not be the case..... He has problems passing BM... I have to give him a suppository or he won't do it.. And he HATES it when I do, but when he gets the urge to go, he won't..He'll start screaming in pain and grabbing his butt and saying his tummy hurts... and it usually is really tight... He'll cry for a while, then I'll give him one to help it along, but I don't think he's constipated..Whenever it comes out it is really soft and squishy.

I was thinking maybe a digestive problem, but I am not sure... What do you think it could be....

Also I am gonna schedule a doctors appointment next week.. They were closed already when I called today at 1. The reason we've been waiting is to see if it was a milk allergy or not......

This has been going on for over a week now, and I give him a suppository every other day.

Also he is 2 1/2 and still in diapers.

We've been trying to potty train him for almost a year, but he is not at all ready.

He is taking fiber, and I've already been giving him juices and etc... It is soft. like I said before, and that is why I don;t think it is constipation.

My son, when he was young would resist the urge to go and this caused him, over time to be chronically constipated.

What we did was changed his diet completely, not allowing him any sugar, processed foods or white flour. I am not big on fruit juices because of the high sugar content so I had him drinking lots of water.

We also started a toilet routine where he would get up in the morning, have breakfast then sit on the toilet. After school he had another toilet session, this was an attempt to create a routine. (Most people do have bowel movements at the same time most days).

In less than a month his problems were all taken care of and he didn't suffer from the tummy pains any longer. He also now has completely normal bowel movements because he understands the importance of going when he gets the urge and that it's good to have bowel movements.

I would say for many children they are confused and think it's bad to go.......perhaps that's why they resist the urge, or try to hold it in. For others it is because they are busy at the time. Whatever is the cause, they need to learn that when our body has the urge to have a bowel movement, we should go and not attempt to hold it.

Just a thought- maybe he is not ready to be potty trained? Every child is different. My son became horribly constipated when we first tried to train him. We stopped and let him have the diapers. When he was ready to try again we worked with him to recognize his bodies messages. He wasn't fully trained until age 4 but the constipation was never a problem again. My 3 daughters were trained at 2 1/2.

It can be a frightening experience for small children to see a part of themselves flushed away. And boys typically train later than girls. As parents we may be ready for potty training long before the child is! Good luck!

Give him pear and prune juice. Avoid yougurt. Make sure he is drinking enough water. I personally would not reccomend giving him any more suppositories. Buy him some fiber rich foods, fruit veggies, fiber enriched cereals.

hope this helps
