So, he is taking it slow, getting to know you first. What's the big deal? If you really want to know if he likes you, why can't YOU ask HIM out? He's probably wondering the same thing about you, that you are wondering about him.

Alot possibility on this, he might be a gentleman with no intention, he might in love with you but shy, he might be a caring type of friend.
However, you will get your answer as time can proved you everything. Don't do much guessing jobs as you may fall dissapointed at the end. Just leave it as it is. Be original and be nature. Stay tune and wait for the answer.
