It all started when she was 18 months old. When she first started doing it I really didn't think much of it. at least she was talking, well now she is just shy of being three. She reminds me of a cave girl or tarzan. I have tried things such as telling her" no, not that's gabby""that's mine". I really don't know how it started of why she still does it but it is getting old. I must sound horrible that something like this bugs me but honestly I need help knowing how to teach her how to phrase herself.

Just off of the top of my head, if she watches Sesame Street that may be where she is getting that from . Keep in mind ELMO talks like that. I know that may sound corny or far fetched but it is a thought.

When she talks that way, just patiently correct her. Just make sure you aren't referring to yourself as a third party. Sometimes as parents, we do that and don't realize it. She's picking it up from somewhere. Just be patient with her and work with her. I think it's just a phase she is going through. ;0)

My son does this who's 4. I had asked to doctor and he had said that its how they solve their problems. It's kind of asking the same question of 'what would gabby do?' They put themselves outside the box to deal with a situation. So actually this is a good thing; there outside thinkers and can handle things easier than most. This is only a temporary way of talking, soon she will start talking again in 1st person but untill then don't discourage her. Best of luck!

She's only repeating what she hears "that's Gabby's" is probably what you say when refering to something that belongs to her when you speaking w/somone. Try excercies with her. Pick up toys and say who's is this? and give it to her when she says "Mine" everytime she refers to herself in the 3rd person tell her the right way to say it and ask again. You can do the same thing w/ pictures "who's this?" and praise her if she says "me" and correct her is she says "Gabby."

Correct her every time she does this and refuse to respond to her if she asks for something in the third person. When she sees that it gets no response she will drop it.
