My 11th grade teacher (a woman before or after my own heart and mind) has taken up a new faith(i think as recently as last year). So now she's Jewish and a fenicky person when it comes to how she dresses and eats and so on. Foe two years I've wanted to start a restaurant and I've almost acheived that goal , and i remember the extra time she spent with me after school helping me get the concept of the perfect essay and the deeper meanings in litterature (in my mind she was kinda my older sister) Any way she eats Kosher things, and quote frankly, i'm not at all completly sure what the word means. can some one please tell me and perhaps even give and example of things i should buy for the restaurant? It would mean so much to me ^^

Dear Sucrosan:

By definition Kosher is ritually fit, also it would mean clean according to Jewish dietary laws. In conversation one whose religion is Judaism may respond back on the subject at hand by saying it is Kosher demonstrating acceptance. And yes it plays a part for example with what food is being served in a deli restaurant. You may want to start there. That's my take on it.

Enjoy your blessings,

I am not Jewish, but will tell you what little I know. Things are Kosher because of the way in which the animal is killed and because it has been approved by a Rabbi. An animal must be killed in a humane way. Also certain foods can not be mixed. And they do not eat pork. Here is link to more information:

Their meat must be animals that have hooves and chews a cud which includes beef and mutten (lamb) they cannot eat pork. They only eat fish that have scales so catfish or trout or not clean and are out. they can eat bass and crappie

It is a way to prepare food. It was created before metal sinks and anti-bacterial cleaners. It's purpose is to be able to eat a variety of foods without cross contamination; i.e. you don't prepare your veggies where you cut up the raw chicken.
