First go and see your doctor/dietician for expert advice on your problem. My (non-expert) advice basically boils down to eating less and increasing the amount of exercise you do. Lose the weight slowly (1lb a week seems about right) but avoid crash diets - these have a high failure rate (and leave you feeling bad for having put all that effort in up to the point where you REALLY can't resist that forbidden foodstuff). The UK government is pushing the 5 portions of fruit or veg a day. Gradually modifying your diet to incorporate a range of low calorie veggies is accepted common sense.

As regards your physical condition, this is something that only you can take control of. Try to get outside and do a bit more walking, get a bike or schedule a regular trip to the swimming baths. If you feel up to it, join a gym, but at least give the cheaper options a try first. Do it regularly! (and keep doing it!)

Don't think 5 months, think forever - you going to change something that will hopefully last longer than 5 months.

There are lots of good and bad internet resources devoted to both diet and fitness. Find something that provides free info and use your common sense about how you are going to manage this project.

I wish you well and hope you are successful in reaching your goals.

Good luck

Try power walking around the nieghborhood for at least an hour bring lots of water with you. You could try using weights. For the tummy do 56 crunches a day. Don't forget to eat healthy foods and drink lots of water no soda (even diet soda is bad). My mom lost 40 lbs in 4 months by doing this and she is 56!!! Good Luck!!

my mother was older than you when i put her on a diet plan...and it worked pretty well.

its rather simple...to loose that amount of wieght per month...you just need to eat better and walk...walk at a fast pace....start off with doing 30 minutes 6 days a week...and after a month take it to 45 minutes 6 days a week...ad some light hand weights to quicken the pounds coming off even more...

i have suggested to a number of slightly older people who dont want to do the whole gym thing, and work with weights to get a medium sized or larger dog from a rescue...

a dog is a great companion, and his need for walks, and your need to get healthier are a perfect combo...

Reduce your caloric intake to 1,200 calories per day and begin walking for 30 minutes each day on the treadmill or outside. Do at least 50 sit-ups or crunches per day to flatten your tummy. You have to reduce your calories to lose weight, and you have to exercise in order to burn calories--and to build muscle, because the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn! Plus you'll feel great and look toned and fabulous! It will boost your self-confidence too! :)

Get a tredmill (the thing that you run on) and do one hour a day. Eat healthy. You should be better by the time you are forty.
