so I live in texas and I'm trying to get a grant for college. How much can I expect to get from the gov.

so then why do they offer grants? what is their purpose. to sit and collect dust? that might work for you, but I don't turn down oppertunities

I lived in Texas and received $2,000 per semester on a Pell Grant, but with an EFC of 0 that was 2 yrs ago. I believe that this year the federal maximum limit is right around $4500.00 per year. You would recieve close to that amount if your EFC is 0. Not sure why the first guy said you have to pay it back eventually.. That is not true "GRANTS" are gifts, you NEVER pay them back. Loans on the other hand are repaid.

I was incorrect the max per year is $4310.00 I checked. A link below has info!

different grants have various amounts. i think the Pell is like $3000. there is all sorts of $ out there, depending on your grades. ask your schools financial aid counselor for help, that's what they get paid to do..

You work and earn money, it don't grow on trees.

Remember, whatever you take out will need to be paid back eventually, so don't go over-board with the "free" money.
