You are at a healthy weight now. If you want to lose a few pounds, (you don't need to lose 15 or 20 if you weigh 120), eat healthy and exercise.

You want to tone and sculpt your muscles so do light weight lifting for all over toning. Hand weights are good and ankle weights. Nothing hard core because when you build mass you add weight to your body. Swimming is a good all over toner as you use so many muscles as you swim.

Dancing is good for cardio and so is speed walking. These will also help tone your muscles and help with posture.

Low carb is not healthy for you. Eat complex carbs. You have to have carbs for energy. Drink plenty of water, keep your intake of caffeine pretty low, eat smaller portions of foods high in protein (keeps you fuller longer) and make sure they are lean meats. Read the food labels. Remember, anything that says light or low-fat usually has a trade off for something else like higher sodium which is not good for your heart. Avoid excessive use of alcoholic beverages. Way too many carbs & sugars there, not to mention the damage it can do to your body.

I am 5' 1" and weigh 115 pounds. I follow what I wrote and I am fine. I am also 37 and have had some pretty young & hot guys hit on me. (But I am married ... it is still good for the ego & self esteem though ... LOL) Oh, I have also had 3 children. So there is nothing wrong with your weight!!!

I also eat a diet that is high in soy protein and lots of veggies and I do not drink alcohol. If you want something sweet, eat fruits or indulge (a little) in some dark chocolate. It doesn't have as many calories and has anti-oxidants in it that is beneficial to your body.

Good luck! Hope this helps you.

Why Low Carbohydrate Diets Fail

Most quick fix, or low carbohydrate diets, work on the simple premise that if you starve yourself you will lose weight. What low carbohydrate diets, in particular, forget is that it is fat that makes you fat, not carbohydrates. That is of course unless you are completely sedentary and have absolutely no physical activity in your daily routine. If that is the case then trying to lose body fat will be nothing more than an exercise in futility.

Weight loss is based on the formula that if you burn more calories than you take in the net result will be a loss of body weight. The only way to experience long term and healthy weight loss is to do it slow and steady and in the presence of all of the macro-nutrients. Fast weight loss results in losing muscle and water which, in turn, decreases your metabolism and increases the likelihood of gaining back all of the weight you lost, and then some.

While your body can lose more than 2 pounds in a week, IT CANNOT LOSE MORE THAN 2 POUNDS OF FAT IN ONE WEEK. This is a concept that is lost on most people. The diet that your neighbor is following that has allowed him/her to lose 10 pounds over the weekend is unhealthy and setting that person up for failure. They will become a victim of the yo-yo dieting cycle. It is a downward spiral that you want to avoid at all costs. It involves quick weight loss followed by an even greater weight gain and wreaks major havoc on your metabolism. It will make it harder for you to lose weight with all future dieting attempts.

Hopefully you are getting the idea. You see, there is no such thing as a healthy low carbohydrate diet. Use this as a guide to help you on your way to better eating and increased health. Give yourself a little more time to lose the weight and you will have a better chance of finally keeping it off!

My eternal tip with losing weight (it took me years to figure this out, I'm 5'4" and about 140, curvy, but not fat):

Base your weight/mass loss on how you feel rather than how you look. And I don't mean that in a Yoda "How Feel You?" way.

What I mean is, literally place your hands on your body, feel your arms, your legs, your abdomen, etc, and figure out what your goals are for that part.

Next, EXERCISE rather than dieting is the best way to go. Cardio for all-over, and strength training for your individual parts.

Also, I'd base your weight/mass loss heavily on "can I fit into this piece of clothing" instead of "can I lose 15 pounds." Because you can lose 15 pounds a number of ways. You can lose 15 pounds of muscle by just laying around all day. You can lose 15 pounds of water by not drinking anything and laying around all day. You can lose 15 pounds by cutting off your left arm. focus on fitting into clothes and sculpting your body to how you want it to feel.

Possible, but it will take you a long time. Try the Scarsdale Medical Diet. Healthy, but low calories. Make sure you exercise and drink lots of water - twice as much as you think you need.

Excercise or dance. Old fashioned, but the best way to lose any weight is still excercise or any other physical activity like that.
