Ilove how there are some people out there that believe that cops are the most evil thing on the face of the earth besides politicans. I see that if the officer does something to a person that just shot, ran over, stole from, or any other crime that they may have committeds, the public will be hounding the officer and second quessing every sec of movement that the officer did. Example is when an officer shots a male that had just shot into a crowd, the public wants to know why the officer did so and if the officer couldn't have shot a certain area of the offender. This will play in the media for weeks and all sorts of human rights people come out. Same offender shot s a police officer and no one cares and the media airs the news for 3-4 days. ARE WE NOT WORTH THE SAME????

I've had this argument with my friends multiple times. Most of them are in the group of "cops are stupid and don't have anything better to do than bother me". I have nothing but respect for police, firefighters, and other emergency responders. In fact, I think cops are, at times, too restricted in what they can and cannot do to deter or apprehend a criminal. You have to be so worried about frivolous lawsuits anymore that it is becoming more difficult to perform the very job you swore to do. While this opinion is very unpopular with my crowd, I firmly believe that a cop, once his weapon is drawn on a suspect, should have to ask a person ONE TIME to either stop running, put their hands up, drop a weapon, or whatever the order may be that the cop wants the criminal to comply to. If the suspect refuses, he/she is resisting and therefore should be suspected of being dangerous. If the suspect tries to run, they can be stopped by any means necessary. And I mean ANY means. I would rather see a criminal shot and killed by a cop than get away

Now if we would only hold them to this standard in criminal and liability cases! Less than 50 miles from my house a fleeing suspect was shot in the back. They had chased him over 50 miles in a car but when he bailed the cop says he was trying to take away his weapon. The cop had actually shot himself with his own weapon. This was in the OKC paper if you wish to look it up. It's quite amazing to think that he'll probably never see a day in jail, & will be paid while an investigation is happening. Guess we should send drive-by killers home and pay them while they check into things, huh? There was a jailer in Oklahoma county who was charged with beating on inmates who had the nerve to say it would be unfair to send him to jail or prison as most of the people he had beaten were there waiting for him. We all know that it happens but most of the world thinks it was only him, how many more do you think were involved? I have seen some guys brought into the jail looking like they were in a fight with a buzzsaw. We would hear them downstairs yelling and being loud for a bit, then you hear the keys, then the banging and screaming, the next day when he was put in GP he would be fu#$ed up like polio. This s#$t must stop. It will only make criminals commit worse crimes. There was a post here a few days ago where a cop said if the cops kill 2 cons and capture the third then he is charged with the 2 murders even though he didn't commit them. Do you think that man has anything to lose by killing everyone in his sight?

WE are worth more.. people are so obsessed with making cops look bad, because they dont understand the things we have to do.. for example re: your example on the cop that shot the guy that shot into a crowd, people out there dont understand that the cop is doing his job and he shot that person because he was protecting others, because his life and the life of others was in danger, i would have done the same.. but COPS ARE WORTH THE SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE I WOULD EVEN THINK MORE BECAUSE WE PUT OUR LIVES ON THE LINE TO KEEP EVERYONE ELSE SAFE!!!!

Look, the reality is that nothing is black and white. There are good cops, who are really there to "serve and protect", as they should, but there are also bad cops, who are there because they like bossing people around and enjoy the power.

You cant say there are no bad cops. You just cant. Does that mean all cops are bad? No, absolutely not, but to deny that there is such a thing as a brutal and corrupted cop is unrealistic.

And when cops do things that they shouldnt, I think people have the right to ask questions and voice their opinions. And I highly doubt your example is based on anything that actually happened.

It's the media that is evil. Perpetrator of overexaggeration, false information and instigator of many rage build up. Some reporters are great, but there are too many who are out for their own gain and willing to trample anyone that might help them get that extra recognition.

Most cops are great. But there's always a few bad apples in the bushel. That goes for any profession.

You are worth the same to me, just not the liberal media. Very similar to how the troops in Iraq provide multiple services (Building houses, schools, providing running wather etc....) and are never acknowledged except in mail forwards,Yet when a couple go nuts and do some bad things. Its on the front page of every newspaper in the world. Forget the media, people like me take what we see through our own eyes, and I see police protect me from bad people all the time. God bless you.

JAY LENO..." HITS THE NAIL ON THE HEAD"

The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right?

The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the President. In essence 2/3s of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change.

So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, ''What we are so unhappy about?''

Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter? Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job? Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?

Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state? Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter? I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.

Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family and your belongings.

Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90 percent of teenagers own cell phones and computers.

How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world? Maybe that is what has 67 percent of you folks unhappy.

Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S., yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.

I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The President that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks? The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me? Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad?

Think about it......are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the "Media" told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day?

Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go. They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an ''other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig.

So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans? Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by "justifying" them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way......Insane!

Stop buying the negativism you are fed everyday by the media. Shut off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as a country. There is exponentially more good than bad. We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several times a day or at least be thankful and appreciative.

"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, "Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

No one cares if the shooter shoots into the crowd, yet they don't want cops to do their jobs.

I hold cops in the upper eschalon of society, because they are the main force in keeping public peace.

The law views it contrary to your opinion. You can "murder" a regular citizen and receive a lighter sentence as compared to the "murder" of a police officer.
