Is it that it translates poorly or is it like that in Arabic too?

What's so hard about it? If u can understand English then u should be able to understand the translation too.

It translates poorly. The Koran was written in a very old and poetic form of Arabic. Although they can read it, no Muslim actually speaks the Arabic in which the Koran was written. Most Muslims are against the Koran being translated into other languages because they believe Arabic to be the language of God and that the Koran loses some of its original holiness when translated.

The Holy Koran was written in a very rich form of Classical Arabic which we Arabs now find hard to understand but it was the language of daily life back then. At that time , Arabic literature reached its highest stage and there were many poets who used to write poems of more than 300 lines!!! Koran was written in the same style so that it was in coherance with the language style used then. Arabs considered it as a miracle and believed it was from God because Prophet Mohammed (PBU) could not read or write so he was not the one who wrote such a rich book. Prophet Mohammed(PBU) was able to recite Koran to his followers although he couldn't read.
It is normal that any translation of original text makes it lose alot of its deep meanings, so the translation is only for shallow meanings only

The Qur'aan is hard to understand if translated word-fr-word into English because it was written over 1400. It is Just as hard to read an English book written that long ago. Currently a group of translators have put together a translation of the Qur'aan in "normal" English and this makes it much easier to understand.

The Koran, in the original Arabic, is written in very strict poetry. That helps with the memorization and recite of the words. (The Koran was invented to be recited, not read). Because translators try to keep that poetic form, and usually use 1600 century language (why I have no idea - unless it is to imitate the KJ Bible), the translations are usually difficult to understand.

That's because many of the Arabic words don't have a direct translation into English, so the closest word is used, but the meaning is the same.
An example would be the word 'Rabb'. It has no translation directly to English, so the word 'Lord' is used.

In order to understand quran, u got to read the "TAFSEER" which is the elaborated form of the translation and makes it more understandable.

thats because it would use old english and because the words are translated to the closest english words...
