I never married. I raised my daughter alone. When she started school, so did I. I was able to schedule my classes so that we were in school at the same time. I got two degrees and raised a wonderful, intelligent child.

I would love to be a stay at home mom, but I can't afford it. I think our children in America face so much more than I ever did as a child, and it's so important being able to give as much attention and focus to their upbringing as possible.

I don't agree that the government should pay or subsidize care of my children so that I could stay home. That's absurd unless they also get to decide who gets to have children, how many, and when. Let's get real here. We have to take some responsibilities in our lives. Can you imagine how many lazy, immoral women would just keep popping out babies to get a bigger "paycheck"?

Bigger question, why the stay at home mom? why not the stay at home dad?

Recently I have been on both sides of the fence. I didn't want to put my child in day care but I had to to make ends meet. It was the best thing I ever did for him for socializing and learning. He loves his friends and it prepares him for school and interacting in groups etc. He handles himself very well. Now I have the opportunity to stay home and he's three. I never realized how much he enjoys being with his momma! All along I felt guilty taking him out of his day care and away from all his friends when all along he wanted to be with me. Staying at home is much harder then working 40 hours a week!! I often say I'm going back to work-it's easier!

IT IS HARD!! I hate when people underestimate the amount of energy it takes. It really is the hardest job to do. I saw the Today Show a couple days ago and the estimated amount of money a stay at home mom would make if she were paid was $186,000!!! On top of that though, you're giving you're kids one of the most precious gift... lots of time with you!! I have the most amazing respect for stay at home parents.

i applaud stay at home moms or dads. it is one of the hardest jobs and you don't get recognized for most of the things you do. but, you know, because you are at home with your children and you can see what they do and how they act, you are really making the world better. you are raising them to know right from wrong and you are there to correct them when they are doing it wrong. i think there would be a lot less problems if children were overseen by the parents that brought them into this world rather than putting them in the hands of strangers, who may very well care to their child's every need and do their jobs diligently, but, let's face it the real discipline on the rights and wrongs of life come from parents. you have to be there to do that - and that means not only half the time - but 100% of your time.

As one, I say they are taken for granted as most people underestimate what being a SAHM entails. A lot of sacrifices are made the biggest ones being solitude and self fulfillment. They work 24 hours a day with duties ranging from care giver, chef, teacher, taxi driver, disciplinarian, nurse and maid. It is an on going job. I say Happy Mother's Day to all of the moms out there but I honor Stay At Home Mom's because they make a great difference in the life of their child.

Stay-at-home parents who don't vegetate in front of the TV work harder than the rest of us.

It doesn't matter if its the father or mother, as long as the work gets done. My experience, though, is that guys have a harder time of staying on-task at home. We're more likely to goof-off.

There is nothing wrong with a stay at home mom. Afterall, at least you will know your child is safe and you’ll save money on child care. Just don’t forget to take sometime for yourself.
Do whatever makes you and your family happy!

Stay at homes are usually over worked and under paid.

It works for some and not for others. I personaly think a mom should be at home. It's a full-time job, that is often not rewarded, enough.
