Yes you can be drafted.

The selective service system does not have an extemption for " Only Son" or " Only Child "

The only extemption is for those who have had a parent killed in the line of duty. Then it applies to all children of that family.

I posted a link to the selective service web page below, so you can read how a new draft would work yourself.

The answer is no. It depends on what the son wants. I heard awhile back some idiot wanted to redo the draft thing and I am a first born male and I wont be going anywhere. It may be up to the courts to decide down the road but they want people who are not on drugs, over weight, or idiots.

In 1948, in order to safeguard the only remaining sons of families that had lost other children during World War II, the United States passed a law that exempted sole surviving sons from the draft. This exemption applied only when one or more children (sons or daughters) from the family had already died or been killed during military service. In 1964 this law was modified to extend the exemption to sons who were the only surviving male offspring of fathers who had died as a result of military service, and at the same time the exemption was altered to apply only to peacetime drafts. This law was modified again in 1971 to extend the exemption to any son (not necessarily the only surviving son) whose father or brother (or sister) had died in military service.

Drafted -- yes, if the Selective Service was active, which it currently is NOT.

But it is very likely that, except in the event of a **real** national emergency, that he'd be able to get a deferral and not have to serve.

So stop trying to scare the little kiddies with your rumor-mongering about the draft.

You should ask your command. IMHO, if you cannot deploy, you need to be given a discharge and sent home. It means some other person has to take up your slack and the worst thing I hated in the military were slackers.

yea if Hillary Clinton is elected president she'll do whatever she wants. Have him join the Navy if he gets drafted. That way he won't spend time in combat he'll just be at sea for 2 years, and the Iraqi's dont know how to use boats, so he'd be perfectly safe there.

No, you can not be drafted. My bro-in-law is an ex-Marine and they told him if the draft was to be reinstated he would not be drafted for that reason.
