I would love to go see the countries but don't particularly want my head cut off because I'm an American

I went to Baghdad and never want to go back. I was scared to death the whole time I was there. I went for work as a government contractor.

I was afraid for my life. I saw a firefight, saw people walking around the streets with machine guns, and bombed out buildings. And I was in the green zone the whole time.

I also went to Kuwait. I felt relatively safe but was told never to look a woman in the eyes. I spoke with another Christian there and he said he was not allowed to talk about Jesus. I really missed the freedoms I have in the US while being there.

I would love to go to the Middle East and have no particular fears about going. If something happens it happens. It's the same as waking up every morning and only living moment by moment. You can't control the future so why try? It totally takes the joy out of life.

As a female with light features, there are some countries where I feel traveling alone just isn't wise. I do, however, want to visit every country. I think you learn a lot about the world when you travel, but you also have to be a smart traveler and not put yourself in questionable circumstances.

I would like to go for several things:

First, I would like to make a pilgrimage to the holy sites in Israel. I would especially love to see the Holy Light. If the radical Islam wasn't so sharp and fierce in Iran, I'd love to go learn Aramaic from the last living speakers (granting, of course, that it has changed with time). I would love to go see the Agia Sophia in Constantinople (of course, Turkey isn't technically in the ME).

Those are the big things.

I would only go to Israel, as it is the only democracy in the Middle East. It also has fabulous beaches and malls, and fantastic sites. The holy places are wonderful to see as well. Now that the Christian holy sites are under Israeli rule, they are refurbished and accessible to EVERYONE.

No way in hell. Oh, wait.... it is hell. So that would be double NO WAY!!! Except... I would like to see the places that Jesus was. But I will never be able to, it is far too dangerous there. And I agree with the Archaeologist above too.
