When your a smoker I'd say it does relax you. It relaxes you because sometimes you get tense from wanting one for a long time, and finally getting it can be relaxing.
However if your a non smoker or do not have the urge to smoke, then a cigarette will not help to relax as it does not have any calming effects on the body.

Everyone and all bodies are different. My husband is a 3-pack-a-day smoker. He's smoked since he was a teenager and he'll be 50 next month. I cannot tell you how many times he's tried to quit, and though he's gone for months for the times that he's quit, he's always gone back. Nicotine is harder to quit than heroine. It's designed that way by the cigarette companies. Have you ever read what's in cigarettes? The ingredients? How many carcinogens? Is it really worth the notion that it may or may not relax you? Don't the cons outweigh the pros enough to disuade a person from forming the habit? Besides laws are coming into effect the nation-over about how fewer and fewer public places are allowing such practice to go on. Have you ever stopped to wonder why this would be? Studies show strongly that cigarette smoking and second hand smoke have strong ties to cancers of all sorts, low birth weight, fetal deformations, inner ear ailments of children, a whole host of illnesses too long to list on this response. Do the math. Then, look for an alternative to relaxation, because I know for a fact that over the years you've heard enough of the damages of cigarette smoking and little of, if any, the benefits of smoking. Use common sense. Play raquet ball or take up weight lifting, or go on a walk for relaxation.
To answer you question: Yes, I think it's a myth, because, quite frankly, nicotine is a stimulant. Research this, not on the internet, but at the library. Also, if you smoke around your children and while they're growing up, chances are really good that their body's will crave that nicotine and take it up themselves. On a much lighter note, it makes your mouth stink, your clothes stink, and who loves kissing a smoker? I don't, though I'll never confess this factor to my husband. It's disgusting. If he quits, I may want to have a go round at a make out session with him, but we've been married for five years and that's really never happened. Think about it that way. Plus, it turns teeth, finger nails and toe nails yellow. I should invite you to come over and talk to my husband about it, and I'll let him tell you what his experience as a cigarette smoker has been. Plus, it robs you of your funds. Try over $5 a pack, multiplied by 3 per day and do the math for the year. Yup. Not a pretty habit. Sorry for the rant and good luck with your decision.

I normally smoke weed about 3 times a week. But for some reason after im not high anymore i sit there and ask myself why did i even smoke? Yeah i feel "relaxed" and all this other bs but i don't get **** out of it but being high for like an hour. I want to stop but i just cant. Whenever i do stop myself from smoking weed i feel really good about myself. So id say no it wouldn't be wise to smoke again. We need to find something better that we enjoy and relaxes us,like something that will better our lives and we actually get something out if.

Yes... when you are addicted to it. When you have a nicotine addiction, your body begins to believe it needs the cigarette, when in fact it does not. The result is that you feel tense when you are not smoking. Smoking eases the tension. Otherwise, no. Cigarettes, in themselves, don't relax you at all. In fact, by causing your body to become tense from the withdrawal symptoms brought on by the addiction, they actually CAUSE the tension. So if you look at the overall picture, the theory that smoking relaxes you is a myth.

I am a smoker, and have tried to quit zillions of times. I always end up starting again due to a stressful situation because it does relax me. Technically, smoking causes all sorts of changes in your body, including your BP and heart rate to increase, among others, so I am pretty sure that it is a mind thing for me. I guess, for me, the mind part is the hardest part of the addiction to cigs. To answer your question, I believe that its a myth.

Absolutely - at the end of a tough day, nothing like a good cigar for quiet and calm. A Churchill can take anywhere from 35 to 50 minutes to smoke, so you can't just dash off a smoke like with a cigarette. By the time you finish, mellow is the word of the day

NO! Cigarettes contain nicotine which is a stimulant..you think you are relaxing but actually you are just speeding up your system and the need to have more cigarettes because nicotine is addictive.

Yes, after a long day at school I love to sit down with a menthol cigarette, flick open my zippo and light that baby up. Maybe for you liberals it's different but for me it's enjoyable and social. I know it's bad, but YOLO
