Ugh what most people are getting mistaken-ed by when i say. FEAR, and controlling us. I mean that there are people saying that The world wont end until God says so, or they died before finishing he calendar. But the people who are saying IT WILL END DECEMBER 21st, are they only saying that to put FEAR into us?

You think the Mayans are trying to control you? I've been to Mayan villages and they speak such distinct dialects that one village away, they're speaking a different one. I don't think they're thinking about you at all.

But I know the world won't end in 2012 because the Bible describes events leading up to that event, and one of them lasts 7 years. It hasn't started.

I have no clue what a Darwinist would say about this or even why.

The guy above is right when he says the Maya believe the world will start over, not end. Sort of. It's more complex than that. The Aztecs, too, had a circular view of time.

The Mayans make no such prediction.

The Mayan calendar is based on cycles of twelve. On the date given (and thank you for noticing the uncertainty about the exact date), the Mayan Calendar will hit 11.11.11.11.11 ... and then roll over to 0.0.0.0.0, which is no different than a 24 hour clock rolling over from 23:59 to 00:00.

To be more precise, the date will roll from *0*.11.11.11.11.11 to *1*.0.0.0.0.0... which is simply an end of an age, not of the world.

-----------

The Mayans didn't even view it as an occurange of great change, just the end of one age and beginning of the next, a calendar roll-over the same significance (or lack thereof) of going from December 31, 2000 to January 1, 20001 and starting a new millenium.

And yes, Jan 1, 2001 was the start of the millenium, not Jan 1, 2000, as there was no year 0.
1 - 1000 = 1st Millenium CE
1001 - 2000 = 2nd Millenium CE.
2001 - 3000 = 3rd Millenium CE.

that's suggestions is predicated off a Mayan calendar (it is the three hundred and sixty 5 days the calendar stops). i do no longer understand why or how the Mayans got here to the conlusion that that's whilst the earth could end. i do no longer take it that heavily. each and every person concept the worldwide could bring about 2000 or whilst the planets final all aligned up. certainty is, there is no understanding whilst the earth will end. And im seeing way too many questions approximately this date on right here.

"The astronomically-based Mayan calendar will be completing its first great cycle of approximately 5,200 years on the 21 December, 2012. Although there is no substantial evidence that the ancient Maya considered the date significant, many people have postulated that this is the "end of the Universe" from the Mayan perspective, and others believe that the Mayans meant this to symbolize the "coming of a great change."

Their calander simply ends on this date, THEY never claimed the world is going to end, it's other people trying to understand why it ends.

I'm not a Darwinist but can I answer.

I doubt it but I hope so.

Actually the Mayans have a calander that ends at 2012. It has been surmised by others that it means they believed the world was coming to an end on that date.

Maybe the guy doing the calander died.. you know it takes a lot longer to carve it in stone than type it out in outlook.

Who the h*ll are you talking about as to using fear? The Mayans haven't been around for quite sometime. At least not as a great society. It is only that the calender that they left behind ends on that date.

Anyway, whether or not the earth is coming to an end on that
date, what would you propose we do about it?

My view is that it is a calendar. For how many thousands of years would you like them to make it? I'm sure they didn't extend the length of their calendar due to the fall of their civilization. It be like someone digging up a calendar we made and saying the world is going to end December 31 2007.

Um. The understanding of the Mayan calendar you're quoting is a typical white new age version of indigenous beliefs.

My day planner runs out June 1st. I don't think the world ends then....do you.

That day's the last day on that calendar...and the following day is the first day on that calendar.

They had too much crack in their system... who cares about what mayans said... poor schmucks don't even exist anymore.. i dont see the point of making a calendar through which their own existance would diminish... kinda defeats the point... lemme guess.. they couldnt predict their own end but they could predict the end of the world? HA HA... that's hilarious... crack is whack.. too late they didn't know that
