why on Earth can't you at least wait until the car has stopped to light the cigarette or dial the phone? I jump 10 feet every time I see someone bearing down on me with their eyes on their cigarette or cell instead of the road. And please no "it only takes a second." In 1999, that second resulted in my getting hit and suffering 3 broken bones.....

Bob, I am sorry that you were involved in a accident. I am sorry that the person who caused it couldn't learn to keep the priority of the road ahead of everything else. But would you have us outlaw all of those things I listed?

Distractions have always been present. Distractions will always be present. You can blame cell phones and cigarettes if you want, but truthfully, I think I'd blame the driver.

Uhm scumbags? Just because im a smoker? And i'm sure just because you're a non-smoker and don't use your cell phone, that YOU are the BEST driver in the freaking world right?!?

I agree that people should not be on their cell phones while driving, but lighting a cig? Come on now.. That doesnt take too much attention to be directed away from driving at all. I could prob light a cig with my eyes closed so STFU with that non-sense.

I believe that in 1999 your lack of driving skill probably also had something to do with getting hit and suffering 3 broken bones. I've AVOIDED many-a-collisions with idiot drivers, both smokers and non-smokers and with people on their cell or not. Idiot drivers are just out there. And I have no doubt in my mind that you must be one of them to have to blame your sucky driving on other people's bad habits.

Let's get down on those who light a cigarette, and cell phones, and forget those who read papers, brush they're hair, adjust the radio, off in La La land, (dreaming). Any form of lack of attention is dangerous. The cause of most accidents. Please do not tell me you are totally concise at all times behind the wheel. We all make stupid mistakes, some get caught, others don't. What we all need to do, is work on our own practices behind the wheel, not telling everyone else they are to blame. That in itself, is dangerous. I am guilty of reaching down, for my drink, taking my eyes off the road for that split second. How about you?

You think that's bad! How's about the lady the other morning in the traffic applying nail polish to her TOE NAILS, whilst driving at 80 km/h in peak hour bumper to bumper traffic on one of our freeways! And that in a manual shift! How she managed to shift gears, brake, accelerate and do all that is required under such circumstances with just one foot, goes beyond reasonable thought! And NO, I'm NOT lying!!!! This really happened.

I don't smoke or talk on the phone while driving but I see so many idiots who do. Driving is a priviledge and not a right as so many people feel it is. There are too many tailgaters who follow WAY to closely behind you on the highway and who drive WAY to fast. I try to be a safe driver always but there are too many idiots who are not!

Well, Mz Streisand, I just may start drinking beer along with my smoking, cell phone talking and driving just to pi** you off. Didn't you promise to leave the U.S. after Bush was elected?

it is against the law to use the phone while driving here. the cops still do it but will ticket other drivers for it. i dont answer the phone or carry a conversation on it if i am driving. "it only takes a second" to hit a child or innocent motorist.

You should play basketball, If you lived in Cebu, i am sure your feet would never touch the ground.... They don't talk on cell phones here they text on them, a general rule here is honk when passing or flash your lights, at on coming traffic, if they work....

I agree with you 100% on your question. I see it happening every day. I've almost been hit by quite a few morons who apparently can't multitask at all.
