The reason I ask is that there is a lot of killing, sexual promiscuity, dirty name calling and bigotry in that little book, and I don't think it should be within children's reach.

Maybe when they're older it's an OK book to read, but those Bibles are always left in a drawer that little kids can reach.

Absolutely! They should also give them out as Happy Meal prizes. I always thought it would be charming to have a little cross and nails and Jesus so the kids could reinact our Saviors death. With a little dirt and some imagination, you could also have a resurrection!

I thought that's why the Gideon's put them there.... When I was in school I got given a pocket New Testament by the Gideon organisation and I'm sure they said they don't mind if people take the bibles from hotels. Having said that, their version of the bible is quite tame. The King James version is the real "fire and brimstone" one.

It is ok to take them if you want to use the Bibles (but not for violence, promiscuity or insults) ... just make sure you send a donation to Gideons to support their donations of Bibles to rooms.

If you are concerned for kids, put book morks through the Bible and highlight some areas that inspire you.

PS. Don't tear pages out of the Bible ... I mean, I have never heard traditional churches teaching of Tamar, one of Jesus ancesters, but doesn't mean that chapter from Genesis can't teach us something

God works wonders with Children learning some of that horrific stuff in the bible. It's amazing. I thought that too once but my kids have a real understanding of it and that comes from the Holy Spirit to their souls. I would say the bible isn't something you should hide from anyone.

No, the bible is an educational book and nothing to be ashamed of. Ill bet you that less than 1% of children would consider picking up a bible and reading it.

The Bible is the number one best selling book of all time. I, myself, am not a religious person. But come on...its the Bible. And if these kids are old enough to read, they should be old enough to read the Bible.

Only if you take every history book they will ever have, and never let them watch tv, movies, listen to the radio, or let the out of the house. They hear and see worse every day than they will ever read in the Bible

You are right, it is not suitable for children. However, children are not able to check into hotel rooms by themselves. It is the responsibility of their parents/guardians to keep the bibles out of their reach.

No it is not alright. It's stealing. As for the content, if you have a child who can fight through the difficult language, you probably have a child mature enough to handle the content.
