Could be a lack of muscle. Without good muscle tone people can look fat. Also muscle is heavier than fat.

That's quite unusual, but i know what might be going wrong. I am 5' 4'' a male, 15 years old and 119 pounds. I am very muscular, and hit the gym almost everyday. You may be have very limited muscle and a tad more body fat. After all, muscle does weigh more than body fat which may result in your problem. Don't lose weight and diet, just work out. Trust me losing more weight may endanger your health considering that you are already on the verge of becoming underweight. I also agree with "adamadam" in that you do seem quite skinny for your height and weight and should NOT worry about losing anymore weight at the age and weight that you have provided. Anyways, just try turning whatever body fat you may have (which is probably very limited at 5' 7'' 112 pounds) and turn it into muscle. Try some crunches everynight and do some cardiovascular workouts for your legs (such as running on a treadmill, bicycle riding, jogging, etcetera). Best of luck to you and i know if you are dedicated you will do just fine :)
wish all the best :)

There are a lot of things going into this question.
First, BMI is a very inaccurate measurement. It's an average of height and weight for being fit. Let me stress "AVERAGE". If you body type isn't average, it's useless and misleading. People with slender or heavy builds don't fit well on the BMI scales.
Secondly, BMI does nothing to address overall fitness. A 200lbs bodybuilder and a 200lbs couch potato that are 6' would have the same BMI!
If I had to speculate, I would guess that you have a very slender frame (compare wrist sizes with some of your friends--a very slender wrist is usually indicative of frame size). I would also guess that you do not exercise a lot, or if you do, it's mostly cardio. I suspect you have very low muscle mass (muscle weighs more than fat). If you were to take a body fat percentage test (much better than a BMI), you would see what percentage of your body weight is fat. You can have that done in your local gym with calipers (also based on an average scale, but better than BMI by far), those electronic scales that run an electric current through the body and check for resistance (a little more accurate, I think--oh, by the way, it sounds painful, but you can't feel it!), or the most accurate method (only available at hospitals as far as I know) which is the water displacement test. A very fit woman should be in the 11-15% range, I think. Men can get down to about 8%. If you are a professional athelete, marathoner or bodybuilder type, you may drop further.
It is also possible (though less likely) that you could have light bones. There are some conditions that result in thinner, brittle bones, but I think you'd know, as you'd be VERY prone to broken bones, and probably would have had this diagnosed as a child.
Changing your body composition is fairly straightforward, but not easy. You will need to put on muscle mass, and lose fat. Those are difficult to accomplish simultaneously, unless you are morbidly obese or something (you aren't). I would recommend an agressive work-out plan with weights to build tone, then work on losing weight when you hit a plateau with which you are comfortable.
You will put on weight with the weight-lifting, but dont' be alarmed. People put FAR too much emphasis on weight, and less on fat. Carrying muscle around isn't a bad thing! It would be better for your body to be 135 and 11% bodyfat, than 121 and 30% bodyfat. Those sleekly muscled men and women you see on TV would probably suprise you with how much they weighed!
Good luck!

Well to begin, just stopping eating straight out is the worst thing you could do. Don't do that.
112 pounds is a good weight for your height and age, if you have problems with your legs try walking or running - that works your leg muscles best. I'd also suggest some simple stretches, just to get your leg muscles used to moving.
Whatever you do, don't dwell on it. It's bad psychologically.

At 5'7", 112 is underweight - by a minimum of 20 pounds, and maybe a lot more if you don't have really small bone structure.
You might want to get some help figuring out why you think you are fat. It's truly all in your head.

first of you must be joking because im 5'7 138 pounds and i look normal.
your not fat by no means. You probably just need some toning in certain areas of your body.
Im guessing you about 12-14 stop worrying about your body so much your still growing. Just try to stay healthy. Otherwise if you have this behavior now when you get older you may suffer from anorexia.

If your 5'7 and 112 lbs then you are underweight! You should weigh about 130. If you think you look fat then you need to talk to an adult-you may have an eating disorder

Actually your weight/height show you are technically several pounds underweight (if you are not in your early teens).
You might not have too low body fat if you have a smaller frame or are lacking muscle mass, but that doesn't mean you are overfat. If anything, you need to work on gaining a few pounds of muscle mass. You sound incredibly skinny.
Take care : )

That is the opposite of me. I justed asked that question yesterday because I weight about 175-180 and i look skinny and fit, but the people on here told me that I have a lot of muscle and muscle weighs more than fat.
So, you must have no muscle and a lot of fat....you probably need to start doing weight training to to up and gain more muscles.

You just got big legs a lot of woman are stuck with them it's to help with the babies that you may have one day I guess.
It's tough being a woman you can never look like a man. Why you would want to though is beyond me just be happy with what you got and live with it, in a few years all the boys will be going crazy and killing each other for those legs I'm sure you wont mind them then. Trust me one day you'll be thinkful for them.

Body weight charts and the newer BMI (Body Mass Index) DO NOT take into account body composition -- i.e., the percentage of weight that is body fat. Therefore, one can show a "normal" weight yet still be "too fat." Conversely, one can have a very high BMI, yet still be very lean. Unfortunately, the medical establishment still classifies these individuals as "obese" or " morbidly obese" based completely on BMI. Bodybuilders typically have high BMI, yet they are very lean (around 4 to 6 percent body fat).
Based on your own assessment that you "look fat," you probably have a high percentage of body fat. The "weight" of your bones is not likely to be a major factor here.
