ive got a 88 mustang 5 litre, with 3:73 gears, the speedo is calibrated now, the gear in the tranny is changed, i want to add a set of white faced gauges with a 140mph speedo, do i have to replace the whole speedo?? i ve found one for $250, i didnt know if they make a tranny gear adapter for 3:73's and a 140mph speedo......if youve done this let me know thanks..

I would say you could install the speedo and it should be ok or not off by much....usually the gear in the trans is only off by one or two teeth and you can check with a Ford dealer to see what teeth count are available. If it reads too fast as in doing 60MPH but reads 65, get a gear with one more tooth and too slow, get a gear with one less tooth....1 tooth usually equals 5 MPH difference. There are also adapters that can be custom made by speedo shops but they're more expensive. Done this many times, only on Chevy's....sorry. Paul

have done it on a 92 model....
The gear on the vss needs to be changed to a white one,assuming you have an automatic trans,sorry dont have thge tooth count but they are color coded. next check ebay for a overlay to sticker to make your gauges white face but if you only have a 120 mph speedo then it will still be 120 mph. But it will get you the white faces.
