This is something a vet needs to see. An abcess can become worse as the infection spreads and is very painful to the animal, especially for a small kitten. The vet would normally drain it and flush the site, and then follow up with anitbiotics to fight the infection and keep it from returning.
I agree that you should call a veterinarian and explain your situation and ask what options they might recommmend. They very probably could extend you some Care Credit, direct you to a low cost clinic or even take you caes on themselves for nothing (an animal hospital I used to work for was known to occasionally do this). Good luck and I hope your kitty gets well soon.

Abcesses are tricky things. Once the infection gets started it can get very bad very quickly. Especially if this was caused by a bite from another cat. Realistically your cat should be put on antibiotics and have the wound professionally cleaned.
Call your vet and ask for the office manager. Tell them the situation and ask if you can bring the cat in for care and set up a payment plan. Most vet offices will work with you in a situation like this if you are upfront with them from the beginning.
Good Luck!

This is a job for a vet and you need to find a way to afford it. You accepted this responsibility when you adopted kitty, and it's time for you to live up to it.
Ask about Care Credit; it's a low (or no) interest type of credit card that you can use for medical and veterinary care. Most vet practices can get you started with Care Credit.

First, it's called "abcess".
Second, if you don't take the kitten to the Vet, you can be charged with Animal Cruelty.
Third, if can't afford a regular Vet, take it to the SPCA and I'm sure they have or can help you find medical help that is free or that you can afford.

What you can do is you can call the SPCA. The SPCA not only serves abandoned and abused animals but also have medical facilities that assist pet owners who are unable to provide medical attention for their pets. For a small fee, the SPCA will treat your cat. They will be more than happy to assist you with your kitty since they would much rather treat him for you than to have you abandon him. Give them a call or call the Humane Society too to see if they can provide you with some assistance.

Call the vet any way, explain you can't pay, and ask him/her for options. There may be a clinic in your area for low income pet owners.
But if you can't afford basic medical care for your pet on a regular basis, you can't afford the pet. Consider finding a new home for it. It's not fair to the animal to keep it.

hi you need to soak the absess in epson salt and warm water this will help drain out the infection it isnt contagious so you dont haveto keep them seperated but you should wrap it after soaking and draining because more thatn likely the kitten is licking it to "clean" it and that wont do anything but make it worse! i hope all works out!

This really needs to be taken care of by a vet. If you can't afford vet bills you should not have pets.
