My son goes to bed at 7pm,I think this about right, particularly on school days.Saturday night he gets to stay up till 8. Having discussed this with friends some think I am too strict, what time do your kids go to bed?

the real question is why are you sending him to bed? because he is tired? because you are tired of him? Because you have heard that others ppl have a set time for their kids to go to bed?
I have 3 children all under age 10, 9 and 4. they have to go to their rooms at 9. They can read or play, but they have to be quiet. absolutely no TV or other electronic devices xbox, etc. i have one daughter that some nights don't sleep at all. the oldest 2 are in school and have excellent grades, i find no draw back from the sleep they get. in fact bed time is not a battle, they look forward to the time the get to unwind. i don't have to fight with them to "go to sleep'.
Some kids need structure and some don't, every child is different.

I do agree with your time for six year old 7.00-7.30 is good . depending on what you do through the day it is better. sometime a kid will stay up all night and what TV while there parent is a sleep and they will be expose to all type of stuff on the t.v. and this Will haunt you in the long run. Do not listen to what people have to say you know what is best for your child. you know what struggles you go through each and every day and you want the best for your child. please take my advise and continue your son on the right path. a child need a lot of energy to wake in the morning and prepare for school and to function properly during the day. he need enough energy to take him through the schools hours and not to sleep in class while teacher is teaching ....................Keep up the good work it will pay off in the end. remember to give him a extra 1/2 an hour on weekends to play because hard work and no play makes jack a dull boy. I do not believe a child that age need a TV in his room because i child need to study during the week and recap what he learn in the day when he is home and to do his assignments.

Not as early as yours but that's our family. What is more important is that your child is getting enough sleep. So, count back ten hours from when he needs to get up, add thirty minutes and that should be bedtime.
Actually, the only thing I would have a problem with is letting him stay up on the weekends. Having had lifelong sleep problems, I have learned the hard way that good sleep hygiene means going to bed at the same time every day, weekends included. I'm trying to instill this in my girls early so hopefully they won't have insomian problems like I do.

Mine are 4 and nearly 3. They go between 7 and 8 although the 3 year old still has a sleep in the day, so she can be up until 9 some days, but my eldest was like that too.
It depends on your lifestyle. I like to get up at 7 and have a good morning playing with them. They are at their best then. If I preferred a lie in then I'd put them to bed at 9.
7 sounds fine to me.

It kind of depends on what time he has to get up in the morning too.
My six year old goes to bed between 8 and 8:30, usually.
If I would let her, she would probably manage to stay awake until 9:30. But if she does stay up past 8:45, the morning is NOT pleasant, let me tell you...

All kids are different... at 6 mine went to bed at 8, and got up at 7am. She needed the 11 hours sleep. If that's what your son needs, then to heck with your friends and their lenient rules.
IMO a TV is a bad idea... but I see where you're going with that. I have my daughter read in bed until she gets sleepy when she just can't fall asleep. I also have some lavender/chamomile aromatherapy lotion I use on her hands and temples.

well since my son was three he goes to bed at 8:30 pm not before or after either ,, it is better to be strict than let your child do or say or even go were he wants to,, he will learn a good thing as he grows up and will thank you one day for being strict

You have the right time and don't change his bed time until he's in middle school 8 and again when he's in high school 9 the first two years then 10. I did this with my children and step children. And now all of them are doing the same.

I went to bed at 8 pm when I was a kid and that worked out pretty well even for school nights.
