I recovered from depression three times, all with help of meds and support of my family. I have recurred, but I try to live each day as it comes and have become a much more patient and caring person I feel. I have true empathy for suffering of a mental nature. If you are suffering yourself I hope you come out the other side as soon as possible. It takes a long time to 'heal' but trust me you will be so thankful when you do!

The fact of the matter is that depression, like so many other "mood disorders," is caused by either a chemical balance, or deficiencies w/in one's system that is causing the symptoms of depression, etc. There are natural avenues to explore that do not carry risks of side-effects (unlike synthetic medications). That being said, there isn't always a cure for this, but if you go the more natural route, you're taking things on a daily basis that are working to correct this imbalance rather than just trying to mask the symptoms

Treatment for depression varies by person. "Normal", in my opinion, is a terrible term.
People who have been treated for Depression and its cousin, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, often need medication and therapy for some time. They all need the love and support of a network of friends and family.
With medicine and/or therapy, people often don't return to who they are -- they become better than ever, leading healthier, happier lives than they have known before!
There is a book I discovered that you might want to read, Creating Optimism : A Proven, 7-Step Program for Overcoming Depression. Look for it in your library or I've given you the link to amazon.com:

I was depressed once but I became fully cured without drugs. It took a diet and lifestyle change, and the patience to allow my brain to rebalance it's chemistry with proper food combinations.

i have lived with depression for 30 years. you learn to cope with it and to recognise the good days with the bad. the main thing is to find a understanding doctor who listens to you. medication helps and can help you live a normal day to day life. Always remember that depression is a illness and not a state of mind.

Absolutely.... I think alot of it has to do with a chemical embalance in your brain, and with medication it can be balanced out. I was depressed a good portion of my entire life and finally was put on anti-depressants and it totally helped me and I was able to come off of them once my embalance was fixed. I definitely think depression can be cured.

I suffered from post natal depression twice and both times I came through it. You dont feel like you are ever going to get better when you are ill, and there seems no hope but you can and will beat it!
