Prophecy not only foretells the manner and object of Christ's coming, but presents tokens by which men are to know when it is near..."Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation." 2 Peter 3:3-4
But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.”
2 Peter 3:5-7

Amen sister.

Judging by the last question of yours I figured that is the right answer.

There have been "scoffers" for 2000 years. We are aware of them more these days because of the Internet, television, and the fact that in most countries today people can proclaim their unbelief without fearing pain of death. But there have always been people who have doubted the supposed truth of the bible. If you consider "the last days" to be 2000 years long, go for it :)

How do I as an atheist feel about it? Well, being an atheist and all, and thinking the Bible was written by men for their own purposes.. I feel nothing about it at all.

"all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation."

im confused about creation. so is the bible...

in Genesis 1:12 it was noted that the land had already produced vegetation on the third day, three days before the creation of man. Yet in Genesis 2:5, no shrub or plant had even grown when man was created.

Furthermore in Genesis 1:20-25, we are told that the animals were created on the fifth and sixth day of creation, all before man; yet in Genesis 2:18-19, they were created explicitly to find man a companion!

Thus within the first couple of chapters of the Bible contradictions already exist.

the closest thing to a prophet in this world is an actuary.

Atheists don't feel they are fulfilling bible prophecy because they do not believe in the bible, or it's prophecy.

Those who do know and believe the bible, know that when God said he created the heavens and the earth in 7 days, they also know elsewhere in the bible that to God a "day" is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as a day.

Since there was 2 thousand years from the creation as laid forth in the first book of the bible, Genesis until Moses, and another 2 thousand years from Moses to Yahshua, (otherwise known to most Christians as Jesus) and two thousand years from Jesus to the present time, give or take a few, that brings us up to being on the threshold of Jesus coming, when the prophecy spoken of when Yahshua, (Jesus) shall indeed return to reclaim earth and restore it to the Edenic perfection he intended before man screwed it up with all the evil, (even some committed in His name), when God will "rest", aka the Great Sabbath rest, or as some know it, the thousand year reign with peace on earth, with Messiah ruling, reigning and straightening out this mess.
This will no doubt occur with in some of our live times, depending on our ages.........all of course, after all hell breaks out before hand.

I don't think it's fulfilling any prophecy. There have ALWAYS been people who don't believe in your God.
There isn't a single moment in history since the Bible was written over 2000 years ago where you couldn't point to that "prophesy" and say, "See, the signs are here! The prophesy is being fulfilled!"

Hypocrite !!! You cherry pick from the Bible and apply it to other people and never to yourself.

Even those who follow the churches are fulfilling prophesy also.

2 Tim 4:3-4

For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories

Christendom is drenched in pagan practices and teachings and holy days like Easter and Christmas which are pagan sharers. Yet you close your eyes to it and indulge.

Christendom has indulged in wars of nations and shared in it's bloodshed sacrificing themselves to their flags.

1 Corithians 10:20
but I say that the things which the nations sacrifice they sacrifice to demons, and not to God; and I do not want YOU to become sharers with the demons.

Churches have become memorials of war.

Do you really think that's a plausible argument ? Really ???

Just because some guy said that others would disagree with him - You think that's some sort of legitimate prophecy or sign ?? Are you serious ??

Do me a favor - fine me ONE person that everyone agrees with him and not one disagrees. It can be in any arena, religion, politics, science, sports cooking, you name it

Don't you see how flimsy that "prophecy" is ? How generic it is ?

If you don't, then I'm sorry....

A fine example of a self-defending meme!
"Alternate viewpoints are evil: don't listen to them."

Yes, the bible fits nicely into my atheistic world view.

Has the world ever had a shortage of sceptics and lustful people? Ecclesiastes was pretty sure "There is nothing new under the sun."

but . . . why would atheists have any interest in fulfilling biblical prophecy?

This "prophecy" has made people for 2000 years say the end is near. So is it finally near for real this time?

I don't think athiests care about biblical prophecy, and frankly, after the prophecies that the christians pull out of their butt to try to squeeze jesus into the bible, I am pretty sure they would not know an actual prophecy if it bit them on the aforementioned butt.
