I have a girl that has very long curly hair as well. And what I do is I let her choose what kind of hair accessories she wants to wear and while I'm doing her hair she does the exact same hair do to her doll. Also some times we 'race' to see who can finish the heir do first. Some times I do her hair while she watches a cartoon.
I try to do different games to keep her mind of the 'drag' of doing her hair and keep it fun and interesting for her. So this is as well some quality time we have with each other.

Ok...don't brush it. Comb it while wet and try to leave it alone. If you have to do anything, use a very wide plastic comb or even a pick and spray it with detangler before combing. Curly hair needs special care. Be careful NOT to pull at her hair. Let her watch in a small hand mirror. A fancy kind that is only used during hair sessions may make it special. That may distract her.

When my youngest was small, I'd french braid it (while wet) off her face in the front and then leave the back down to curl. It looked lovely. That is a great look for a little girl.

Use the detangling spray that you can get at the store. Wal-Mart has a cheap version of the Johnson and Johnson stuff but it's exactly the same. You can also do two things that work to keep the tangles out in the first place. One is braid her hair before she goes to bed. The other is to get her a satin pillowcase. My oldest has straight hair but it's really thick and fine so it tangles easily, just like mine. My littlest one has very curly hair but she's only 19 months so it isn't as bad. Yet.

I had this problem with my niece. She used to run around the house screaming and we would have to grab her, hold her still with our legs, and do her hair quickly. Lol. It wasn't child abuse, and it worked. She was just being a brat. She has really curly hair, which makes it worse, but as she got to about 3 and a half, she grew into her princess phase and now, at the age of 4 going on 5, we tell her "Let me make your hair look like a princess!" and she sits down quite willingly. Does your daughter have any interest like that, or even a cartoon character she loves to watch? Like Dora the Explorer? You can tell her you'll make her look pretty like Dora.

You might think I'm crazy, but have you ever asked her how she would like her hair. Involve her in the process. I hear what you would like her to do. Have a conversation about it. When you are doing your hair bring her in the room with you. As your styling your hair say something like Mommy wears her hair this way. I like it this way because and then give her a simple reason why. Then ask her if she would like her hair a certain way. Don't make it a vanity thing but a practical situation that all of us do,everyday. They begin asserting their independence early. Our job is to guide them along and set the boundaries.

My little girl did the same thing. Her hair is straight and fine but it gets tangles easily. I bought some No More Tangles and she likes to spray it in her own hair and then we see if it works and she lets me brush it. Its worth a try it worked for me .. good luck!

Does she hate you brushing her hair because it is all tangled?
There is this wonderful detangling spray by loreal or suave has
some also just for kids. I have an autistic daughter and I don't
know what I would do without that spray because she has
a very sensitive head. Wonderful stuff!!

Try letting her take turns with you.

Let her brush her hair then you brush hers.

Make it kind of like a game. it wouldnt be fun for you with your hair in the end... but her hair would be done.

Or give her somethig to play with, or a dolls hair to brush while your brushing hers.
Lotsa things to test out for trial and error :)

My 2 yr old daughter has super long hair it was a huge struggle to brush her hair until I bought some of that detangling spray... I told her it was magic spray so it won't hurt anymore when we brush her hair.. she runs and gets it everytime she gets out of the bath now and says "Magic!!" .lol. Just try to make a game out of it.. or resort to good old bribery! :o)

make it interesting for her...i used to sit my baby in the sink in the bathroom and she would watch herself in the mirror...let her hold the comb while you brush or hairspray...make her part of it...she will enjoy it then. If all fails...you should try watching something on tv where it show someone fixing hair and have her watch it...then she might want to be like the person on tv.
