After taking NyQuil for a couple of months as a sleep aid, I mentioned in previous posts that when I ended it... I could no longer sleep at night. While taking it, I started getting sleep paralysis frequently etc. Anyway, I keep going back to it bc it's the only way I can sleep. If I stop altogether, how long do you think it will be before my sleep schedule gets back to normal?

It's not an exercise issue. I can't sleep whether I don't exercise at all or if I go for my bi-daily 4 mile run.

Nearly everyone suffers this problem at one varied point or another in their life from using some drug or another to sleep, some even more than others such as possibly your case, but I know how to treat it, naturally. For a very economical price you can get natural melatonin from your local Wal-Mart in the vitamin section which helps your body to produce more natural Serotonin at bed time to enhance sleep. There are zero side effects, other than a good nights sleep, and it is non-habit forming. It is just a great vitamin supplement.
Search the key word "Melatonin" on your Yahoo search engine to confirm what I'm telling you. It naturally provides me a great nights sleep every night after trying for years to sleep at night before I found this dietary supplement. I wake refreshed and full of energy as I am only promoting my body's own ability to sleep. The best brand comes in a purple bottle from the company "Natrol" and is labeled Melatonin 5mg (1 tablet at night). Again, it is non-narcotic as it is a natural supplement and is found in the vitamin and health section at your local Wal-Mart. It's the best kept secret for sleep I've ever experienced for a great nights sleep every night. By helping the body to produce more Serotonin, which is your body's "chill out" hormone, the Melatonin lowers stress, eases your mind, and thus promotes restful sleep.

Apparently because you used NyQuil as a way to fall asleep, your system has become dependent on it. What puts you to sleep is the liquor in the NyQuil.
You are going to have a hard time sleeping without it. So, you need to see a doctor.

ny quil has alcohol in it , it is noted in many medical publications that people that use alcohol on a daily basis are not able to dream properly ,in such not have r.e.m. stage sleep properly. your dream paralysis is caused by you brain trying to redeem the r.e.m. sleep stages it has missed. these can get pretty bad and the longer you dont take it the better it will be , every person is different acccording to when you will recover a regular sleep pattern again. Good luck and keep trying.

Try some valerian root. It feeds and fortifies your nervous system. When your nervous system gets strung out it won't let you sleep. Exercise can help too. Stop traking the nyquil. It will just compound this situation by confusing your nervous system.

First you have to find the causative factor for your sleeplesness and try to resolve it analyzing all things recent or remote that might have contributed to the cause or consequences. Alternative medication such as homeopathy or Bach Flower therapies may be tried to find a solution to your suffering.

Stop with the NyQuil, and just get out there and work out more and eat healthier. Trust me you will look forward into getting into bed.
