Just at a guess, and not knowing the rest of the story... to me it means the writer is trying to say that God will always protect his flock - even if they get lost and stray. Once they're in His flock, they will always be in His flock.

Something like that. And it's just a guess.

I am not sure what the passage is from or how they meant it, but it is true that God is a Shepherd that never loses his sheep. It means that when a person is born again into God's family He will keep them forever - they are in no danger of being lost.

One earlier answer said the person had been baptized and was now agnostic to suggest that God does lose sheep, but what is important to remember is just because someone joins a church doesn't make them a Christian. You can stand in a garage also, but it doesn't make a person a car.

One that really belongs to God is one that has realized they are a sinner and cannot save themselves. They know that Jesus is God in the flesh, that He came, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life. They believe that He died on the cross for them, taking their punishment and shedding His blood to cleanse their sins. They know He arose bodily in victory the third day because He is God in the flesh. They have believed this and responded to His invitation to come to Him and be saved. They trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour

When a person does that they become God's. They are part of His flock and it is recorded in the Bible that Jesus says in John 10:27-30,
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
30 I and my Father are one.

Yeah, I know it's hard to understand this if you haven't experienced His presence. He's a spirit and the bible says no one has ever seen Him. I sure haven't. But I have felt His presence and it's a pretty powerful experience. He has lifted me up on some of the most grueling days of my life when I was in complete despair. How do you get to the point I'm at? It starts with a desire to know Him. I mean intimately – like two friends who have no secrets between them. You can't approach God in a casual manner and expect Him to respond. He deals strictly with the heart, so leave behind your preconceived notions and any misconceptions your mind can generate. It may sound silly, but it takes a certain amount of trust – trust in someone you don't know just to get to know Him. Sounds a bit backwards too, I'm sure. Some people find God out of disillusionment with their lives. Others are just plain angry. For me, it was a need to know what is right. These are all catalysts, not reasons to seek God. You seek God because you want to know the truth. We humans are very foolish. We make up our own truths as we go. We are just deceiving ourselves, but for a time our own truths make us happy. But happiness is just an illusion as the old song goes. Pure joy. Lasting joy. That's what God offers to those who believe. So get quiet and reach out to God. Jesus said that if you seek Him with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength, He will be there for you. That's a promise. So go for it. He's been waiting a long time to hear from you.

Well, the way Jesus taught, if a sheppard has a flock of sheep and one is lost, he is to leave the flock and go out and find the lost one. This is to be compared to the love God has for his lost children. When one of Gods children are lost or in trouble, he will leave the rest (the ones who are already saved) and go out and seek the one that is lost. This goes to show that God loves all of his children the same. Even the ones who don't believe in him.

It means that once you ask God to forgive you of your sins, and you try not to sin anymore, or if you do (because as humans, we all do ) that you you ask him to forgive you, and you continue to try to do what you know God wants you to do in your life,, that NO matter where you are or what is going on in your life, good, bad or otherwise, He is with you...you are NEVER alone. God gave you a very precious gift, straight from your dear Grandma.

He will leave 99 sheep behind to come and find you. Once elected unto eternal salvation, it stays that way, regardless of what you do.

1._____ Those whom God hath accepted in the beloved, effectually called and sanctified by his Spirit, and given the precious faith of his elect unto, can neither totally nor finally fall from the state of grace, but shall certainly persevere therein to the end, and be eternally saved, seeing the gifts and callings of God are without repentance, whence he still begets and nourisheth in them faith, repentance, love, joy, hope, and all the graces of the Spirit unto immortality; and though many storms and floods arise and beat against them, yet they shall never be able to take them off that foundation and rock which by faith they are fastened upon; notwithstanding, through unbelief and the temptations of Satan, the sensible sight of the light and love of God may for a time be clouded and obscured from them, yet he is still the same, and they shall be sure to be kept by the power of God unto salvation, where they shall enjoy their purchased possession, they being engraven upon the palm of his hands, and their names having been written in the book of life from all eternity.
( John 10:28, 29; Philippians 1:6; 2 Timothy 2:19; 1 John 2:19; Psalms 89:31, 32; 1 Corinthians 11:32; Malachi 3:6 )
2._____ This perseverance of the saints depends not upon their own free will, but upon the immutability of the decree of election, flowing from the free and unchangeable love of God the Father, upon the efficacy of the merit and intercession of Jesus Christ and union with him, the oath of God, the abiding of his Spirit, and the seed of God within them, and the nature of the covenant of grace; from all which ariseth also the certainty and infallibility thereof.
( Romans 8:30 Romans 9:11, 16; Romans 5:9, 10; John 14:19; Hebrews 6:17, 18; 1 John 3:9; Jeremiah 32:40 )

3._____ And though they may, through the temptation of Satan and of the world, the prevalency of corruption remaining in them, and the neglect of means of their preservation, fall into grievous sins, and for a time continue therein, whereby they incur God's displeasure and grieve his Holy Spirit, come to have their graces and comforts impaired, have their hearts hardened, and their consciences wounded, hurt and scandalize others, and bring temporal judgments upon themselves, yet shall they renew their repentance and be preserved through faith in Christ Jesus to the end.
( Matthew 26:70, 72, 74; Isaiah 64:5, 9; Ephesians 4:30; Psalms 51:10, 12; Psalms 32:3, 4; 2 Samuel 12:14; Luke 22:32, 61, 62 )

My understanding from the Bible is that we are God's sheep, as Jesus is our shepherd, and just like a Shepherd watches his flock so that no harm comes to them, so it is with God, he protects us and watches over us. Hope that was helpful

Flock = people who want to follow him.

It means that of the people who want goodness, want to follow God, etc., will be taken care of by God. They will not be "lost" because of oppressive people, deception, emotions, misconceptions, etc. God will always give them a way out of temptation and a way back to him. He goes after his lost sheep.

It's an analogy. It means God never loses one of his children. It's like God's the shepherd, and he never loses any of his sheep.

It means that God will never let any one of those who believe in him through his Son Jesus Christ - for Christian - and his Prophet Mohamed - for Muslims- etc suffer eternal banishment into hell.
