It was from the old Kung Fu TV series with David Carradine. I was going to give you a link but I can see someone already did. David Carradine was the main character and the old monk at the temple would always call him grasshopper when he was about to impart some wisdom to him.

The phrase is from Alice which was a television show back in the the late 70's/early 80's. The show stars Linda Lavin in the title role, a widow who moves with her young son to start her life over again, and finds a job working at a roadside diner on the outskirts of Phoenix, Arizona. Most of the episodes revolve around the goings on at Mel's Diner. Flo's catch phrase, "Kiss my grits!" was enormously popular at the time her character appeared on Alice. I loved this show as a child! If any catch phrase needs to make a comeback its Dyno-mite!!! LOL

Wow, it's shocking to find someone on here who remembers 'Kiss my grits'. I loved the show 'Alice ' and Flo was one of the best characters. Go for it! Start saying kiss my grits and see if it takes off. lol For the kiddos who don't recognize the phrase, look for reruns of the show Alice. It was a great show from the 70's about a diner and some waitresses and their funny lives. I think it still comes on ION television sometimes. :)
