The price is going to depend a lot on the bells and whistles. If you go with finger adjustable knobs, and adjustable power sttings to go with the mil dot, and the higher power for long range shooting the prices really start climbing. I think Burris has a good Mil Dot. Not sure of the price.
You might want to look at some scopes by Mueller Optics. Their Eraticator model ($259) is in your price range (mine too), and is made in Japan's best optics factory. Their other models are not made in the same place, and probably don't have the same quality.
In that price range there is always Barska, Tasco, and Bushnell. I haven't had good luck with my Bushnell Sportsman. It just lost it's repeatability, so I'm going with another brand for my next scope. I'm seriously thinking about getting a Weaver fixed power, K series, for my next one. Lower fixed power for a .22, not the same application as you are looking to fill.
I really enjoy shopping for scopes. Good luck to you.

Throw a couple of more C-notes in the pot and get a good scope.
The best scope t a modest cost would be a Leupold Vari-X III. You can get a 3-9 x50 mm, or a 4-12 x 50 mm and I think the price will be under $600.00.
I know the scope will cost more than your rifle, but cheap scopes are not worth the effort as a general rule. I had to learn that the hard way.

I don't understand the 30-50 yards at 9 power. For deer hunting out to 300 yds, a 4x fixed is almost enough. Typically on scopes I decide what features I need, 4x, 3-9x, 4-16x, 32mm, 40mm, 56mm and what ever reticle I want and by the most expensive one that I can justify. I have used tasco 4x and 3-9x without a problem in the past. The 6-24 tasco will not work above 18x.

lets see long range varmint scope under 200 bucks.hahahaha
Sorry you better look for a used one.Why are you using a 270 for long range?? Unless it has a bull barrel you are going to be disappointed unless you are reloading your on shells to about 55 grains of lead. Great gun just not for what you want it to do.Unless long range to you is 200yards or in.
